Wow...and Fic!

meganlynn09LJ's gone kinda crazy, hasn't it?
So, in effort to sort of ignore it and to not worry about things, I'm presenting to my f-list the Doctor Who fic I said I wrote the other day.
It's short, about 370 words, and it's about Rose, and it takes place immediately after "The Doctor Dances". I'm just giving it to you guys, letting you all be my betas and and brit-pick and whatever and then everyone else can read it. So this is flocked for now.
It's sort of Nine/Rose, because how can I resist, but there's nothing really going on, just some dancing and Rose's thoughts and whatever. No dialogue. Weird.
My tentative title choice is everything we have is all we need. Lower-case because it's cool like that. ;) It's a lyric from a Snow Patrol song, I believe, and I liked it.
This could probably get away with a G-rating. Because I'm boring like that. The other fic I wrote (Special Unit 2, which I'm still baffled about) probably earns an R-rating or PG-13 at the least.
Rose Tyler wonders how many different songs the Doctor can get the TARDIS to play. Right now she was fancying that one from the movie about dancing all night. She remembers her mum watching the movie a couple times, but it’s honestly been so long she can’t recall much of the movie, nor the name. Just the song about wishing to dance all night.
She remembers the feeling of being in the Doctor’s arms. It was warm, safe, and a feeling she’s never had before and can’t put a name to. She finally got a dance or two with Captain Jack, a little reluctantly because it took ages to get the Doctor this open and she'd like to keep him this way.
For a short while she even danced by herself, round and round the console. The Doctor would glance up every time she passed by, doing whatever tinkering he does to the TARDIS, gracing her with a warm smile. It made her feel drunk, high, happy and something she wasn’t ready to think about. Yet.
The Doctor tells her he’ll play one more tune and that’s it. She pouts but nods her head anyway. It’s his ship.
She bounces over to him, or at least she thinks she does, and pulls on his arm to get him to dance with her one last time. He’s protesting with his words but he’s quickly standing up and he has a firm grip on her hand and he steadies himself with his other hand on her hip. Her eyes close for a moment and when she opens them, she forces herself not to stare and to focus on breathing and concentrating on dancing and not staring at his eyes or his lips and…
He’s closer than he was earlier. She tilts her head forward to rest her forehead on his chest. He feels so cool that she thinks she might be feverish for a moment.
She turns her head to press her ear against his chest. She listens to his heartbeats and realizes that it’s the most calming sound in the world. She almost laughs out loud at her thought. An alien’s heartbeat(s) soothing? But she smiles. It’s not just alien, it’s the Doctor.

"Like so" sounds just a little awkward. I don't really have an alternative (maybe "like that"?) but it doesn't sound quite right.
That's the only thing I have though. I really do like it. :)

Date: 2007-05-31 02:45 am (UTC)Can I suggest just a couple of tiny tweaks? You don't need a hyphen in out loud; and in the next sentence, you could avoid the possible verb agreement clash by taking out "is": An alien's heartbeat(s) soothing?
It's a shame we didn't get to see this part.
