AHEM.
People were doing those picspams of their favorite fictional characters, and I thought about mine. And I came up with...
There are absolutely a couple characters I'm missing, but these are the ones I know have a permanent place in my heart. I couldn't even try and list honorable mentions because it'll never end!
Nine is...great. I've tried to explain what about him attracts me. I said something like this: I think he's brilliant, funny and warm when he wants to be, and again, when he wants to be, a bastard, he's frustrating, opinionated and stubborn, he acts superior but loves humans regardless, he's tortured and tragic but still saves the world, he can be wrong or right or both in some cases. Oh, and he's sexy. He gripped me as a character because of how he was as a "person" and how he related to others, good or bad. He was a fascinating and strange being, but I'm so glad we got him, even if only for 13 episodes.
Martha Martha Martha. I already had a thing for doctors as I have quite a few characters I've admired on ER, heh. Her role as a nurturer was subtle as the show didn't want to focus on that until her family needed her, but it was sweet. I've already told you that her unrequited love was part of what endeared her to me. Mostly because she said NO MORE. She knew and that was the most important. Aside from all this, SHE SAVED THE WORLD ALONE and survived it and no one knows. She's now working "on the inside" to keep the world safebecause someone's not so reliable and she's content with what she's doing.
YES I USED THAT QUOTE. Shut it. Tosh's reserved nature was what endeared Tosh to me as I didn't care for her crush on Owen (in S1, it got interested in S2). She was quiet and loved what she was doing. I relate to that. Her fascination in the things they found should have been explored so much more, the way she talked about Torchwood in "Greeks Bearing Gifts" piqued my interest and of course went nowhere, but stuck with me because of course it's be so intriguing a job. Her last words on that video sealed what I loved about her.
Because I'm just not up to words, here's what I said about Lee 2 years ago: The first episode I saw was "Act of Contrition", and my whole focus ended up on Lee. His fucked up relationship with his dad, his fucked up, sexually charged sometimes, relationship with his dead brother's fiance and best friend, the stick up his ass, his relationship with the President (that the writers unfortunately dropped), his morals. Everything about him drew me in, I don't know why but there it is. That still stands. The idea that he still stands up for what he knows to be right, the way he questions things to the point where I find him fucking annoying, is what makes me still love him like I do.
Oh Lizzie. She questioned herself after every decision she made and I feel that's what made her a good leader. I really can't pinpoint what...maybe she cared too much sometimes, maybe she didn't make the right calls sometimes but she did what she felt was right to protect Atlantis and her people. She never wanted to give up and never truly surrendered her diplomacy. She gave her life for that city. In so many ways (and lifetimes). Running Atlantis and making sure John and Rodney didn't destroy the city and keeping them safe from enemies was her life. I wouldn't mind being her when I grow up :D
If there was one thing to applaud Smallville for (possible the only thing?), it would be the character they created: Chloe. She was the most real human being on that show for so long, probably still. (Okay, they get a little credit for Lex, but they fucked that up so fast, I wish I could take that away from them) She, like Martha, loved someone that supposedly didn't really love her back the same and she learned to move on. She was fallible, she got jealous, made bad choices, questioned her life, worried about her future, would get too curious for her own good, but ultimate does what she can to help Clark keep the city (and world) safe. As much of a joke Smallville is now, I thank them for Chloe.
Oh Abby. She was always so...human. God I hate saying that. Anyway, if there was ever a character to point to and say I watched him/her grow up, Abby is in the top 10. She's outspoken, snarky but can be very friendly, loyal, independent, strong, a good doctor (and nurse), she's stubborn but eventually learned how to pick her battles. She didn't let her relationships define her, but she let the outcome of them shape her and that's what really allowed her to grow. She learned to let herself rely on someone and she's in a happy and healthy relationship with a beautiful baby boy.
Hm...what to take away from this...I do tend to favor the female characters. Huh. That was actually fun. :)
