Dalek Part 2
Aug. 11th, 2006 07:56 pmPart one here.
So, here it is continued.
This is the rest of the first confrontation between the Doctor and the Dalek.
Still not dial-up friendly, with 70 pics under the cut.
Preview:

He just stalks around this thing, like he's about to strike, and you almost expect him to. He even has this Dalek afraid of him, of course since the Dalek has no defenses at the moment, he should be afraid.

"I made it happen." That's scary. No, really, I want to know more about the war, because that's terrifying that the Doctor had to do something that took out two entire races. Well, what we thought was an entire race, but it was only one ship that fell through time.

That had to have been hard, handing your ass to yourself. Here he is raging, rightfully, against his enemy, yet he sort of stops himself cold.

Right here, he does this thing, like he wants to laugh and cry and just throw himself at this thing. Or I just captured this cap that made it look like that. But it doesn't matter, that's what this cap shows.

I hated when he mocked the thing. Because I hated that he wasn't the same anymore, he's not my Doctor here.

But I still want to hug him.

Maybe a little smooch.

"We're not the same..." But they are, and he doesn't even resemble my Doctor.

Right here, when he says, "I know what should happen", his voice almost breaks and something in him definitely does. This cap actually breaks me. As do a few others. He doesn't even look like himself.

Okay, last two parts tomorrow. Enjoy!
Again, caps are up for grabs. Just ask, and I have bigger versions.

Date: 2006-08-12 12:49 am (UTC)Ahhh. Remember when they had enough narrative control to tell us so much without scads of expository ranting?
It's of a piece with Eccleston's acting, actually. Show, don't tell. And show more than words can ever say.

Is that why he's been naked in quite a bit of his work? ;-)

Date: 2006-08-12 02:56 am (UTC):-) He is the only person I've ever seen who got narked because he couldn't be more naked in a scene. I read an interview where he was embarrassed in the love scene in Jude because Kate Winslet was laid out there, so open, and he had to keep moving very carefully, even though the point was that his character was emotionally as well as physically stripped.
As for that laughing/crying moment, it's there. It's real. He's crumbling, but for a moment there everything is imploding, falling in, rather than exploding.
I miss him, too, but I've just decided to be glad that we had him for 13 episodes. My problems with S2 are all based upon the presumption that he's gone; now, Rose is another issue...

Date: 2006-08-12 01:38 am (UTC)CE is amazing because as much as I was scared by the Doctor and as much as I didn't recognize my Doctor, I still felt these immense sorrow for him that he was brought to this point.

Date: 2006-08-12 03:24 am (UTC)When he said "I made it happen" I felt my blood run cold. How could My Doctor do something like that? But he did...oh god, he did.
Oh, I know what you mean. I was dumbstruck. What happened? What was going on in that war that pushed everything to that? Oh My Doctor. There's a new one. ;-)
And I'm really gonna just the hell up before I make an idiot of myself. ;-)
Oh no, please! Say what you want, I love analyzing and long comments. Lets me know I'm not stupid for doing these posts!

Date: 2006-08-12 03:26 am (UTC)I want to know more about the Time War, too. I'm intrigued since he referred to it several times, but still only gave us a little information. I think his emotional responses throughout the season tell us a lot about it, though.
This part of the episode is scary--he is so different. I thought it was brilliant how they set up the episode--how we don't see the Dalek in action at first, but we're still scared because it scares the Doctor so and causes such a great reaction. It's a great buildup to when the Dalek is let loose.
I want to hug him, too. And now I really want to watch this episode again!

Date: 2006-08-12 03:47 am (UTC)Oh, you should watch the episode again, it's one to watch twice, or more. Pick up so much.
I'll be continuing with two more posts on this episode, so don't worry!

Date: 2006-08-12 03:56 am (UTC)Yeah, I think they did a good job introducing the Daleks to new fans, but also they put a lot in there for long-time fans--it's such a different spin on the Daleks. And then the memorable "Exterminate!" that I'm sure everyone wanted to hear.
Oh, you should watch the episode again, it's one to watch twice, or more.
Ha, I watched it a second time the day after I first watched it! I've been watching them at night, see, and the whole day I was just like, "Whoa. Whoa." And then I timed everything so I could watch it again that night. And it was just as great. Yeah, I might have to watch this again this weekend :x

Date: 2006-08-12 09:31 pm (UTC)I'm so glad that CE was my first Doctor. He managed to really get me hooked on the whole Doctor Who thing, and I really think it was at least partially thanks to his portrayal of the Doctor.

(I miss Nine as well, though)

Date: 2006-08-17 11:24 am (UTC)I laughed looking at the caps, but its not so amusing in itself, there's something quite sad about it.
Also, its so nice to know I'm not the only person wandering around trying to justify why I like the Ninth Doctor better than the Tenth! I think its partly because I suspect people liking him (tenth) for his looks - and I like the Ninth Doctor for his character, his personality. I love his extremities of emotion - he's really serious, but also reallyI haven't seen enough of the Tenth to really make comment (or an accurate comparison) but there's about the Ninth that makes his character so interesting. And his relationship with Rose just feels ... right. They just click - they understand each other, and they challenge each other, and its essentially a really good, solid friendship (whatever else one reads into it! :p) I agree about Rose challenging him. Its so important to their relationship, what she has to offer...
I'll, um, shut up now but thanks for the caps and the comments, since its great to know I'm not alone in valuing the Ninth Doctor... and maybe, being, um, slightly obsessive about it!

Date: 2006-08-18 07:11 am (UTC)maybe it's me...
Date: 2006-12-11 09:47 am (UTC)Me too. You wanna know what drives me bonkers? My 11 year old neice. See, I introduced her to Doctor Who and Nine with "Rose." She liked him and liked the series. She even had to call me up all upset after she saw the end of "The Parting of the Ways" because Nine was gone, she missed him and didn't get what had happened. Then she started watching Ten... and told me she liked Ten better. When I asked why, she told me "Cause he's cuter, Auntie." But the odd thing is that she still wants to watch the rest of Nine's season with me. (the last episode she watched all of with me in order was "Dalek") I asked her about that too. "He's a good actor, Auntie." was the response I got. Personally, while I don't dislike the way Ten/ David Tennant looks, I much prefer Nine's/ Chris Eccleston's looks. To me Ten is just cute, while Nine is Drop Dead Gorgeous and, I'd even go so far as to say, beautiful. Maybe it's me. Maybe it's because how I see someone has alot to do with who they are and not just the way they look.... I dunno...
