Dalek Part 3
Aug. 15th, 2006 05:39 pmUm...got a little sidetracked but here is a continuation of my "Dalek" picspams. I have one more part, and it should be up tomorrow.
A little preview:

Enjoy!
Caps all by me. Snag if you like, credit me, no hotlinking, all that jazz. Thanks!

I skip ahead a bit, sorry. I hate when they strip him and examine him. It's not sexy, it's not pretty, and no, Chris Eccleston did not look good. They used the lights to make him look so alien and it was disturbing. I apologize if you disagree.
Here's where they're trying to stop the Dalek.

When the Dalek wants to talk to the Doctor. This expression. Is he surprised that the Dalek acknowledges him and only wants to talk to him?

I kind of love this cap.

The spittake's a bit much for me, I'm sorry.

But I get over it fast enough when he panicks over whether or not Rose made it out. He probably shouldn't have called her while she was running, but he was worried.

It sucks, because he is responsible for Rose being stuck with the Dalek. I mean, he was almost between a rock and a hard place when chosing to close the vault, and he had to close it, but because he hit the button, he is going to hold himself responsible. But I think even if he hadn't, he still would have blamed himself. She was in his care, she died, he couldn't do anything about it.

Oh noes! Rose is dead! So sorry I have to leave it there, but you know, that's the way it is. I should be able to finish tomorrow night. Or if I feel up to it, I'll do it tonight.

Date: 2006-08-16 12:41 am (UTC)It's not a pleasant scene, but I will give him credit for not trying to pretty-up the torture and make it sexy the way most shows like this would. He really contorts his face. And it looks so uncomfortable, even on the rack, because it looks like the rack itself is too short! Unpleasant all around, but then so it should be.
I find the spit more distracting in the stills than "in motion". He does get going, that's for sure, but in context it's not so noticeable. I loved that he said, when questioned about the spit, that it was okay, the Doctor should be ugly there. Also, you can see how puffy his eyes were - and yet I've never noticed that in the episode! Interesting!
His ability to just have tears appear in his eyes out of nowhere never fails to impress...

Date: 2006-08-16 01:26 am (UTC)Oh, I give him loads of credit, because the scene, like you said, should come across as uncomfortable and it looks so uncomfortable. I just wanted to point out that it's not a scene to squee over because he's half naked. Wanna cheer about him being tied up and torture, at least save it for "The Long Game", where he does indeed look good chained up.

Oh, most definitely!

Looking at some of the caps, he makes me want to weep for him. Oh how I love my Doctor, oh how I love CE.

Just wait until you've seen Jude and Second Coming. I recommend the Kleenex with the aloe vera lotion! :-)
And as the Doctor, he really does elicit genuine tears.

Date: 2006-08-16 02:23 am (UTC)he's done more slapstick comedy sex scenes than anyone I can think of.
Oh my. I take it Doctor Who was one of his tamer works?

*cries* Does he have any happy movies?! *stomps foot* Ahem, yes. I am grown up. That sounds lovely, I'll be sure to have my tissues handy. Thank you.

Date: 2006-08-16 02:35 am (UTC)Um. Yes. By some way. I mean, he had a tame-ish role in Cracker, but the show itself was fairly gritty, and his death scene was notoriously grim, partly because it went on and on and on...and on.

It's a fair question! Um. I guess With or Without You probably qualifies. It certainly has a lot of funny sex scenes - he has no shame. Whatsoever. That little clip of David Tennant with the headboard that's going around? Tame in comparison. It also has a couple of really sweet moments with Dervla Kirwan, who is adorable. There's one moment at the beginning that's lovely, and the dancing scene at the ceilidh is beautiful - dark blue dress shirt. Need I say more?

When done well, funny sex scenes are the best. So much better when you can laugh.
dark blue dress shirt. Need I say more?
Um...no. Not really.

Date: 2006-08-16 03:49 am (UTC)Ummm... Pass? I will say that there's no death scene at the end.
Oh, I forgot Strumpet. Weird. But happy ending. Eccleston can't sing, but by gum, he'd make a great rock star! (And again with the teenaged girls...)

Date: 2006-08-16 04:22 am (UTC)I've had enablers in other areas; CE is a rare one, so when there's someone interested, it's fun!
Do you know these galleries (http://walford.smugmug.com/Christopher%20Eccleston)? If you look at the last page of caps for Strumpet, I think you'll see what I mean. It's a shame the last cap is so washed out, though, because in the film, it's a beautiful shot of his eyes looking very, very blue.

Date: 2006-08-16 05:38 pm (UTC)He's so scruffy as Strayman, but so...sweet. It's odd to say about someone who continually spouts four-letter words and spends a lot of the movie with a naked or scantily-dressed teenaged girl, but you absolutely believe it's innocent. In fact, the kiss at the end is a bit of a surprise! It's an odd little fairy tale of a movie, but they end up rescuing each other, I guess. That last shot is really exhilarating, of them up at the top of an old factory chimney holding each other as the camera spins around.
There you go. Happy ending!

Date: 2006-08-16 08:26 pm (UTC)IMDb is your friend... :-) Perfect Parents, which was written and directed by Joe Ahearne (the director who did Dalek, FD, BW, and PotW - so, y'know, competent /understatement). And I remember reading that the two of them were also going to be making a movie together. Wouldn't surprise me. CE tends to get in with a writer/director and work with that person over and over and over again. He's still doing stuff with Alex Cox, Jimmy McGovern, and Danny Boyle, who were with him from the beginning!

Date: 2006-08-26 10:03 pm (UTC)I agree with you, and am sort of relieved you didn't post pictures of it. It just made me mad and scared (which is what scenes like that should do more often, instead of trying to sex them up), and I wanted to throw something at Van Statten.
On another note, Dalek is one of my favorite episodes, because of the Doctor and how he reacts, and just the general sort of darkness to it. So yay for screencaps. If I get the energy to make some Dalek icons, I know where to go. ;)

I'm guessing you do the screencaps yourself, right?

Date: 2006-08-27 01:35 am (UTC)With, "Dalek", it's really an episode that gets better upon repeated viewing. In fact, most episodes from the S1 are like that. Great on first viewing, but so many are even better the more you watch them. I have so much love for S1. In case anyone missed that, ;).

Mixed feelings about this. Did I mind him shirtless? No. The torture, yeah that bugged me. Shows just what kind of a sick heartless creep Van Statten is. Did I think the lights made him look alien? Not really, but with that blasted rack he certainly didn't look comfortable. I dunno, maybe I'm alien. And maybe I'm more violent than I like to admit; when I saw this, I wanted to rescue the Doctor and beat up Van Statten. Then introduce the Dalek to my BFG 9000... but I guess that's just me.

Is how I feel about Van Statten being in charge of just about anything.

Date: 2006-12-27 04:42 pm (UTC)I'm rewatching "Dalek" as I type this and I noticed some thing... again, maybe it's me, but, I think, if anything that it's Van Statten who looks creepy here with the green lighting and not just because of what he's doing. Yes, it's still disturbing, and it sucks that he's tourturing Nine, but the lighting seems to remind me of how much humanity Van Statten has lost(or maybe never had to start with) and makes one want to empathise with the Doctor... again, maybe it's me.
