Stargate: Atlantis
Aug. 19th, 2006 01:28 pmPICSPAM! Okay flist, this is your duty. To look at the pretty pictures. I would like to introduce you all to Stargate: Atlantis, and for those that know the show already, to enjoy the pretty pictures. Because, indeed, the cast is quite pretty. I think at least. Also to lure you all into shipping Sheppard/Weir.
So, under the cut is, probably 40 reasons to watch (one for each cap). So, get some popcorn, sit back and be enticed into another fandom. Because if I have to be sucked into SGA fandom, then so should you. :-)
Basic facts would be that Stargate: Atlantis is a spinoff of Stargate SG-1, which is a scifi show on the SciFi channel that was a spinoff from the movie Stargate. They each involve what's called the Stargate which provides means of intergalactic travel. Basically, if you watch and enjoy Doctor Who or even Battlestar Galactica, you really shouldn't have problems with the science on the show. Um...I do believe it makes more sense than science on DW which, I don't think they even try. Or you know what, forget the science.
Anyway, Atlantis is based in the Pegasus Galaxy, which is very far from Earth.
Beware of foul language and some season 3 spoilers, but only for episodes that have aired in the US, no spoilers beyond that.
This be the current cast of SGA. From left we have Teyla, the big guy Ronon, Rodney McKay, Carson, Elizabeth and John.

The team that goes out on missions. They are...not so serious.

The Bad Guys(or at least the ones I know)
The Wraith are the big bad that won't go away, and they are a constant and really bad threat to Atlantis and the people there. They feed on people. (and yeah, he dies)

The Genii are pretty bad as well. They've been a threat in a couple different episodes.

Recently, those that don't watch SG-1 for many years (i.e. Me) are introduced to the newest baddies to Atlantis, the Replicators. They will fuck you up. Like literally fuck with your mind, as Elizabeth just recently found out.

Teyla and Elizabeth with their bitch, John. Or as I like to think, Elizabeth's puppy.

And Rodney and Carson. Rodney is nowhere near the badass he's trying to look like.

And Ronon, who's very fond of his gun, and seems to always to carrying it in his hand and twirling it, to probably impress Teyla, who last I saw, really didn't mind. Dirty. I really do mean gun BTW. But he's just a big loveable teddy bear.

Isn't John Sheppard the cutest? Many viewers have crushes on him, because he really is quite adorkable and tough, and if you mess with those he cares about, his "family", he will come after you. As he said, he would do anything for Elizabeth, Teyla, Ronon, Carson and Rodney, because they're family. What makes it better, he has trouble talking about his feelings and when he tries to, he makes it really awkward because he doesn't know what to say.

And there's Elizabeth Weir. No reason for this cap beyond she looks completely adorable.

I do have a girl crush. Yes I do.

On Teyla as well. She can kick your ass. But she's awesome.

Many believe Teyla and Ronon are getting it on off-screen.

He shows enough concern for her so we believe he cares, and she cares about everyone.

It is possibly true. (Which means yes they are)

I somehow came to have a soft spot for Elizabeth/Carson. Because I like Carson Beckett.

And most everyone likes Rodney/Sheppard.

They banter, and can be quite adorable together.

But they aren't as hot as John/Teyla. Even though that's really not happening for me.

That brings us to John/Elizabeth.

And their balcony scenes.

Like here, where he gives her a birthday gift.

They like to stare into each other's eyes, what some call eyefucking. Not a fan of the term, but it really applies to them.

I don't know the reasons behind the looks, but I like the ones he gives her. (This comes from recently joining fandom and not having paid attention to many episodes)

Hot.

And absolutely NO personal boundries. I have no problems with that.

But then, she gazes at him too.

And he likes to sit on her desk.To claim his territory.

And she flirts prettyly.

And hot.

And angsts over thoughts of him being hurt or dead, which happens often.

So that she launches herself at him when he returns safely, and surprises the hell out of him.

But he eventually reciprocates.

And she just loves him.

And then she gets taken over by an alien entity and flirts some more with John. Who also gets taken over by an alien entity as well.

And they kiss under those circumstances. But they still kiss! (sort of like another couple we could talk about)

It's still hot.

And then they try to kill each other, because the alien entities were enemies and used Elizabeth and John's bodies to fight each other. They failed. Here they wake up together in the infirmary.

And are teased about the kiss. And that Liz shot Ronon. But he'll be alright. They seem sort of embarrassed that the kiss was so public, but they don't talk about it. But that doesn't mean they never will.

So, this is the end for now. I hope this was entertaining and enlightening. Otherwise it was just fun.

It's weird, I've seen...one episode from season one and a bunch from season 2 that I don't really remember them all. And I am dying to see some season one episodes. (No, unfortunately I haven't seen The Gift)
Doctor/Rose wasn't that distracting, was it? ;)

And Who science is brilliant, for fanfic anyway - all you ahve to do is connect the warp elipse to the spatial disconbobulator then switch on the trans-dimensional vortex loop, and voila, you have some passable skience
