In the 2005 episode "Dalek" of Doctor Who, all the actors who played Americans were actual Americans, except for the actress who play Diana Goddard.

I didn't know that, so I thought I would share that.

Have a nice night.  I have many icons to post tomorrow, so see you then.

Have you seen The Mummy?
Van Stantan is one of the men who takes a jar from the tomb; I think he ends up being killed in the street by the Mummy's horde.

Huh - I did not recognize him. I've seen The Mummy several times, but I was probably looking at Arnold Vosloo, so...

I was amazed that guy was American - I think he's lived in England so long, his accent warped.

His accent never bothered me, probably because I knew he was American. I find it funny that people made fun of all the "fake American accents", when in actuality they were real! The only one that bothered me, a tiny bit, was Goddard's. Especially how she pronounced her last name.

Your icon's distracting...again. ;)

Van Staten's American accent may have been like Daphne's Manchester accent (not!) on Frasier - in order to get it to be what the network thought
of as a "true" accent, it had to be mushed all to hell.

Was just watching Second Coming last night (I know, for about the 3rd time in the past two weeks - it's just addicting), and it's very noticable how much stronger CE's accent is when he's not softening it.

The only one that bothered me, a tiny bit, was Goddard's. Especially how she pronounced her last name.

That was pretty funny. It was as if she couldn't pronounce her own name! That actress is very striking - and kind of impossible, to be that tall, that thin, and that stacked.

Your icon's distracting...again. ;)

Have you seen the one in his nightshirt? :-) Actually, that's more than he's wearing in some scenes...

Sounds like I'm really going to have to watch this.

That was weird and funny. Later, you even hear Adam say it correctly! And it was weird episode for accents.

You do it on purpose don't you, get these icons that are so...distracting. Or maybe it's just me. I'm easily distracted, I'm always stopping to look at my LJ header.

Anyone who liked S1 of DW should watch Second Coming. There are some strong similarities, although also some very sharp differences. But it's also possibly CE's most astonishing performance - and in his career, that's a hell of a statement. He's 42, and he's been nominated for a BAFTA four times already? However, I know they're never going to let him win.

That's not the intention, but it's a fun by-product.

I just had a vision of a very naughty animated icon you could make from Elizabeth...

That's really a shame. He deserves every recognition he can get.

Absolutely. They'll say it's his own fault for shooting his mouth off - but what he said is true. You know what they say about speaking truth to power.

Oh my...

Let's just say that while many people fake things on screen, he does it in a way where you're thinking, "Okay, now that looks more 'for real' than I'm used to..."

Um...yeah. What movie was this again? Research purposes.

see icon ;-)

You should see the movie anyway, it's one of the best of the last decade, and Cate Blanchett is fabulous. He's a perfect foil. I know more than one person (mostly American) who had no idea who he was before this movie and kept saying, "To hell with history, let's see them together!"

The accent that got me the most was the leader of the tactical team ready to "take out" the Dalek-- "I think we know how to handle one little tin robot..." or something to that effect, and it sounded horrible! Like he was trying to sound like John Wayne or something.

Anyway... Yes, the Elizabeth icons are very distracting... Nightshirts, no nightshirts... Great, now I have pull the movie out!

Haha, I was just about to make the same exact comment. It sounded to me like he was trying to do a Schwarzenegger accent but gave up halfway through or something.

Well, yeah, I remember him from that, and I knew he was American, I was just surprised to hear that all the others, except for Goddard, were Americans as well!
