I'm not a fucking nutter because I believe Rose's characterization differed between season one and season two.  We have a fucking different opinion and it really doesn't make you look like the better person by saying I'm a nutter.

People complain about the haters and how they think they're so much better.  You know what?!  YOU'RE DOING THE EXACT SAME THING!  So shut the fuck up, state your opinion, expect people to disagree and don't act like a fucking five-year-old by calling names because somebody doesn't agree.

Grow the fuck up or get out of fandom.

Shit, didn't I already make this rant?

Oh, I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw it. Just made me angry. Wouldn't like me when I'm...sorry.

For me it's partly because Rose doesn't work as much with the Tenth Doctor. I thought she was a nice contrast with the more emo Ninth Doctor, and they both complimented one another and brought different things to it

Whereas the Tenth and Rose were quite similar, so become a little too giggly and hyper together. If I'm making sense. Exhibit A: The smug laugh from TIP. Or T&C with "Warewolves!" "I know!"

It's why I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with Martha, and hoping she'll be challenging the Doctor more/not quite be so wrapped up in one another

I really can't wait to see what they do with Martha, it'll be interesting to see the new dynamic with the new companion. I'm all excited about it!

And I do agree with what you said about Rose with Nine and Ten.

I think you're right in both accpects it's wrong to call people names becuase someone doesn't agree with you, I also think you're right Rose definately changed in the second series!

Thanks. It just makes me wonder where's people's dictionaries are so I can tell them to look up "opinion".

I think that you should leave it locked if you're tired of having the conversation with people who call you names. This is your space, and you should be able to rant freely here without getting called ugly names. *hugs*

I'm gonna leave it locked for now. And I'm just glad it wasn't actually a post directed at me, it was a comment someone made in a post that just generalized that people who saw a major character change in Rose between seasons were nutters. Rubbed me the wrong way. *hugs back*

They're not nutters... they just have eyes.

OK, yeah, I agree. Did you see the hatememe that was around for a few days? That seems like part of the same thing. Fandom is so frustrating sometimes.

[livejournal.com profile] who_daily goes through the comm's friends list for entries, so they might pick up on it.

From: [identity profile] meganlynn09.livejournal.com
It's very frustrating. I was actually very amused by the hate meme, actually very mad about it because it wasn't a specifically hate meme, it was just an anon meme. And it was pretty entertaining because most of it just ragged on certain people in fandom and some of them responded.

I do believe [livejournal.com profile] who_daily will not pick this up if it's friendlocked since nobody else can read it.

The hate meme just depressed me. I don't like to think that everyone in fandom harbors this rabid hate for everyone else. It just gave me a headache. And the whole BNF thing--I mean, what? People on LJ know these people because they post regularly, but I kind of fail to see how fandom revolves around them. Ah, whatever.

Oh, yeah, I meant if you unlocked it! Maybe I should actually write what's in my brain next time, haha.

The BNF thing baffled me. Although there were many things in that meme that sort of made my blood boil, I just let it pass and read of the more entertaining stuff.

I'm going to unlock this because there really isn't much to argue with here, IMHO ,and if someone did disagree, well, I'd love to hear what they have to say.

Your icon! Oh that is so adorable. Haha, I wasn't expecting that, and it's just so cute. Yay Nine.

The BNF thing was just weird. Apparently, I am sucking up to them every time I comment to one of them! And posting on the meme logged in means I'm trying to make a name for myself! Um, whatever.

Haha, yeah, I don't really know how someone could argue with what you wrote.

I love this icon so much.

It was just funny to read some of the arguments that people put up. I just hated reading that because I liked Nine or because I like this and that, I'm a "insert whatever here". It's my opinion. Let me buy you that dictionary.

I try not to get to heavily into the SGA fandom, but I've been involved in DW fandom almost since I started watching the show, so it's hard to get out!

Rose herself just seemed so different to me, and in a way it is why I prefer Nine/Rose over Ten/Rose. And it could be other issues I have with season 2.

It's not another comm for Rose/Doctor, it's a comm that links to various happenings in fandom. Like the [livejournal.com profile] sga_newletter, it links to discussions, fanfics, icons, videos and the such.

Oh, my! I go to work for a day and miss everything that counts... I'm almost afraid to ask where this post of doom occurred?

It's weird, I saw a post on TWOP today that said Rose was more of a damsel-in-distress in S1 and was really more assertive in S2 - and I was baffled. Now, this person was talking about The Idiot Lantern, which along with Fear Her, has Rose being her most involved in the plot, but she's also a classic damsel in distress in TIL, so I am confused...

Rose changed. The Doctor changed - at the very least, that's going to cause a change in her, but it was more than that for me.

From: [identity profile] meganlynn09.livejournal.com
It really wasn't a post of doom, it was really supposed to probably be a nice friendly thread, for all the things people loved about Rose in both seasons. And I read it, like a fool. Apparantly, "Some nutters seem to think it was unnatural and her character changed quite a lot."

After reading some of the anon meme, it just blew me off. I mean, I know she's not a stationary character, but I didn't expect her to go from how she was in season one to how she was in season 2. You can't even draw a parallel with the jeaously issue because she never said anything in TPotW, she never start some stupid bitch fight or got cranky because the Doctor dared to talk to another woman.

Date: 2006-09-07 04:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nina-ds.livejournal.com
Well... she went from challenging the Doctor (sometimes rightly, sometimes wrongly) to hanging on his every word, right or wrong. She went from a rather unusually framed, sparky young woman who was jeopardy-friendly because she was always off exploring to a fairly standard "girl Friday/love interest" who mostly only went off on her own when she got left behind. She was jealous of Lynda, but she kept her mouth shut and fumed (which was funnier anyway). Oddly enough, perhaps her most mature moment in the entire series 2 was in the ambitious but fatally flawed Girl in the Fireplace in her conversation with Reinette. Then she proceeded (with the Doctor) to treat Mickey even worse than she had in Boom Town.

I think the problem I have with S2 Rose is not that she changed, but that she seemed to regress to a more immature and less independent character. Can't help feeling Nine would give her a wake-up call on that; Ten seemed to enjoy it rather too much. But then, a lot of people see Nine as fatally needy, whereas I just see someone wounded who needs and begins to heal (and changing to Ten is not healing, it's hiding). I don't think the Doctor of Boom Town is at all the same Doctor as End of the World; heck, the Doctor of PotW isn't even the Doctor of Dalek! The Rose of "Rose" and the Rose of Parting of the Ways are tremendously different, and other than her being a little cow to Mickey in Boom Town, the rest of her arc seems to be one of maturation and strength. But I don't see a similar progression in S2, and change is erratic and sometimes inexplicable.

It's too late. I didn't mean to ramble!

Yes, I very much liked that moment. It was extremely mature of her and made me wonder why the writers isolate themselves from each other because obviously they don't talk.

I expect a change, but I expected Rose to grow up, and I was severely disappointed.

Just thought I'd let you know this did get linked on the hate meme. I started the Rose thread that you are rerferring to. LOL I don't think you are nuts at all. Just my opinion that she was just as good in S2 as S1. Just had different experiences under her belt.

Date: 2006-09-07 03:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] meganlynn09.livejournal.com
That's why I didn't link to the thread, because it wasn't actually you who said it, it was in one of the comments. And the above posting wasn't just about that, it was spurred by other things.

And it's just my opinion that she wasn't as good in S2 as S1.

I totally respect that. Just thought you would like to know that it had been linked in that meme in case you wanted to lock it. I tend to love my characters warts and all and like them even better with the warts. It is rare that if I really like a character I will stop. But I completely understand and respect your POV.

I can understand if some people still liked how Rose was in S2, and it's nice when that understanding is returned.

Oh course and in the end we both love the character. It wouldn't matter to us what they did to her if we didn't.

Okay, dunno if people have said this already, 'cause I don't have time to read the comments, but I agree! As you probably know I'm a Ten girl and preferred the Ten/Rose series to the Nine/Rose one, but I still agree that she's different with each version.

I'm not saying I believe that they purposely altered the character, I'm saying that simply because she was dealing with a different version of the Doctor with a different personality, that she couldn't simply act like she was dealing with Nine anymore. She herself was changed by HIS change.

So I've said my piece!

Please, I urge you to ignore anyone forcing their opinion of Doctor Who on you. You're passionate about the series and the characters, and you definitely seem to respect other people's opinions. Forget about the people who insist that their OPINION is the TRUTH.

That's me finished! Talk to you again!

Oh, I forgot we were opposites in which Doctor and series we prefer, that's cool!

And I'm not bashing characters when I say that Rose was different. I think what made me angry was that they implied that I was wrong because I think Rose's change wasn't natural at all.

And thanks so much for commenting!
