I...don't have too much to say on the episode.  It's great, I'm still loving the show but I'm seriously looking forward to next week's.  Especially after watching that trailer.

EDIT: Also?  All the Gwen-hate is getting me down.  I can see why some might not like her, but wow.  It makes me pout.

I love at the beginning when Gwen breaks ahead of Owen, by quite a bit, Tosh cheers her on.  Got a laugh out of that.  "Go Gwen!"  Girl power.  And Tosh so has a crush on Gwen.

The ghost stories were great, and major props to the actor who plays Owen on his ghost scene.  I loved how he was basically consumed by what happened and all he could think about was how fucking terrified the girl was.

I found the gun scene hot.  There!  I said it.  But I don't ship them.  I can't!!  I loved Gwen seeing those happy moments and making sure she's really paying attention to her guy, kudos to the writers to doing that.  But...the gun scene was hot!  And I kinda like how Gwen sort of looked like she was wondering what was happening and Jack having little freak attacks whenever she moved the gun wrong.

I love that Tosh and Owen seem to be quite good friends.  That was sweet.

Um...completely torn on the ending.  I actually thought they were gonna have an everybody lives thing, and then, they don't.  And I kinda really liked the hug.  But I will not ship them.  Seriously, if Jack sleeps with someone else, I won't care, in fact I'm desparately waiting for it.  I like Gwen/Jack, but they're not Nine/Rose.

So, seeing the trailer for next week, OMG Ianto hits Jack, and the Cyberwoman thing, I'm excited for it!

Icons...tomorrow?

Shit, I have no Torchwood icons uploaded.

I loved the "Go Gwen!" too. Aww, Gwen/Tosh would be cool. We need to see more of Tosh!

I thought the actor who plays Owen was really, really good. Is this supposed to be his redemption? Even though he still fucked up? I dunno, he's an interesting character to me.

Haha, I thought the gun scene was hot, too! Even though I don't ship them. But it was hot, OK, it just was.

I had to pause the trailer a million times to verify that it actually was Ianto hitting Jack. I knew it was, but.. wow! Can't wait for that episode.

Haha, I love how everything I said so far is just variations on "I agree with you."

See? It's fun to do it this way. That I can find it hot and yet, when/if Jack sleeps with Ianto so Tosh or some random person I'm not gonna get angry. No, I'll be squeeing over in my little corner.

It's so fun that way!

Oh, I forgot to add something to the post.

Exactly! You said that perfectly. I don't know why I can only do that for this show and no others. Maybe because they're all supposed to be so promiscuous so my OTP has become Everyone/Everyone? (Or just Jack/Everyone, maybe). And so I wouldn't be mad if people sleep around because it would be continuing the ship!

The Gwen hate? Yeah, I agree. I have been seeing a lot of that lately. It is their opinions and everything, but it seems like people are really against her. I don't know, she's fine with me.

OTP has become Everyone/Everyone

I think that's my number one love about the show right now. Although, after this latest one, I seriously developed a soft spot for Gwen/Rhys.

I think some of the Gwen hate is coming from the people that see her like Rose from DW, and that the show seems to be focusing a bit heavily on her, FOR NOW.

I don't even know how, because usually I'd have a pairing in mind, but for some reason I'm all for the casual sex.

Although, after this latest one, I seriously developed a soft spot for Gwen/Rhys.

Me too! Their little domestic moments were so sweet, and rang true. It was a really clever plot device, actually, because it showed us how close and in love they are in a way telling us never could.

I think Gwen is very different from Rose. There are a few similarities, but mostly she's different enough to be OK by me. Do you think we'll ever get an episode where Gwen is as in the background as Ianto or Tosh?

Oh definitely. You saw how happy those moments made her and how much she cherishes them. That she really does love Rhys, even if things got a little heavy with Jack. I'd be a little flustered in her place, anyone would be.

Do you think we'll ever get an episode where Gwen is as in the background as Ianto or Tosh?

I think we might. But I'm trying my hardest to stay away from spoilers. I already know a couple things I didn't want to, so now I'm working hard at it.

Torchwood! Eee! This is the episode of the first three I've liked the most! I like the new characters a lot, especially Gwen!!!

The gun scene was OMGHOT!!! Captain Jack Harkeness has chemistry with everyone!

The trailer for next week's episode looks stunning, I almost screamed CYBERMEN while watching it *hee* I can't wait!!!

Icons...tomorrow?
YES PLIZ!!! I don't have any Torchwood icons, and I'm desperate for some! *hint hint* Today I almost got carried away and made icons from the gun scene, but bsg distracted me *hee*

I thought this episode was great! And yay, you like Gwen!

Captain Jack has chemistry with a pole I would bet.

I'm just starting on the icons, and I will have them up tomorrow. Yes, I will. BSG can be so distracting. But since I don't need to download it, it's almost a hassle to make icons! Now that I can make my own, it's annoying to track down caps.

This was my favourite episode so far, even if the ending was almost cringe-worthy and Jack had a shouty moment that I could have done without. This was the most mature and interesting of the stories, and the Owen storyline was particularly well-shaped and acted (I don't like the character at all, but the actor is good).

The gun scene was OTT, totally pointless, and still, yes, hot. I was laughing as I watched it, thinking, "They're just having way too much fun with this. I think JB and EM have a nice chemistry, and I'd much, much prefer they just let it be friendly and open and not entirely sexual, but not not, either. If they want pointers, they should look at Penhaligon and Bilborough from Cracker. There were two people who were physically and emotionally attracted to each other, but he was married, and they weren't either of them going to screw that up.

Still kind of bored by Toshiko.

Seriously, if Jack sleeps with someone else, I won't care, in fact I'm desparately waiting for it. I like Gwen/Jack, but they're not Nine/Rose.

Nor, indeed, Nine/Jack.

I think I know the moment you're thinking of, but at least I can handle his shouting unlike someone else.

Heh, me too. I was like wow, they're really going for it.

I'm weirdly starting to get attached to Tosh. No idea why.

Nor, indeed, Nine/Jack.

I only said Nine/Rose because I was talking about a het pairing. But I don't think any Jack/male character could measure up to Nine/Jack.

I can't remember exactly what was happening, but it was pretty near the beginning of the episode. Yeah, he doesn't push it so far that it breaks character, but his emotional energy seems to flatten out (not as badly as some we might name - I had to snicker when someone called Ten "Giddy McShoutypants" on TWOP).

I thought the look/feel of the final scene was lovely, but the dialogue was, in British parlance, pants. Just too...too.

I only said Nine/Rose because I was talking about a het pairing.

Yes. Although I think that Gwen/Jack may be slightly better than Rose/Jack was at the beginning - but then, that works, because he was just playing her. I never bought that seduction in TEC because it seemed so practiced/slick. He was much better with her when he could be himself.

But I don't think any Jack/male character could measure up to Nine/Jack.

True. They're really intense and warm, both passionate and affectionate - very different aspects. John Barrowman can have chemistry with anyone; Eccleston can have chemistry with anyone, so together the dynamic explodes.

Yeah, I just, it was nice, and lovely to see him comforting her but come on. The dialgue for a couple of the scenes was really lazy like in this episode.

Gwen/Jack may be slightly better than Rose/Jack

I may be one of the few that never liked the idea of Rose/Jack. They just never clicked for me. Friends, oh yeah. But never close to being more, IMHO.

Gwen/Jack I buy a lot more than them.

If there was one thing that could make Torchwood the best series ever, add CE. I really wouldn't care how.

That annoys me - I know RTD is capable of better. There are times when I think he gauges things wrong, but I don't remember "lazy" in S1 of DW (or Second Coming), but there seem to be pockets in S2 and Torchwood. Although on the commentary of Second Coming (and also 28 Days Later), it's clear CE has no problem telling a writer that a scene needs to be better.

I may be one of the few that never liked the idea of Rose/Jack. They just never clicked for me. Friends, oh yeah. But never close to being more, IMHO.

I sort of agree - Jack/Gwen surprised me a little because I was wondering of JB, like Rock Hudson, just couldn't really spark with a woman. The only way I really see Jack/Rose is consoling each other because the Doctor isn't playing along (I'd never say he's not interested, but I can see him holding back).

add CE. I really wouldn't care how.

I still think if he were offered a fabulous script, he might do it. But it would have to be spectacularly good.

I love watching Americans make posts that say, "Who is this Christopher Eccleston and who does he think he is, just doing it for a year because he doesn't want to be typecast. Doesn't he remember what happened to David Duchovny?" They are so totally clueless about his status in British acting, which is okay, sort of, but it's such a big assumption! In America, it's "Who is this guy?" and in Britain, it's "Wow, how did they get him?"

There were very small pockets of it. I happen to be one of those that isn't a big fan of the big speech at the end of "Bad Wolf". I don't know, the part where he tells Rose he's coming to get her is good, but the whole speech. *shrugs*

It's lovely to see JB have chemistry with everyone. Rock Hudson, good thing he was so pretty.

I'm just happy that we got CE at all, I'm so grateful to have found him as an actor. If I hadn't gotten into DW, I never would have known who he is. I'm a happy camper.

Hmm. Interesting - come to think about it, I don't remember a thing about the words, what I remember is the delivery. The way he shrugs his shoulders down, ready for the confrontation, the assumption of the mask when we can tell he's afraid (God, I love actors who can keep more than one thought in their heads! and show it to us, even when they're hiding); the cheery/chirpy "hello" and "Oh, will you now; that's nice."; then the build in tempo and dynamic toward the "wipe every last Dalek out of the sky", softening to "Rose, I'm coming to get you." See? When you have great acting, even less-than-stellar writing can be memorable!

Have you ever seen the clip of CE on Jonathan Ross's show? Even though Ross was being a bit of a jerk (I don't even think he realized how offensive he was being, and I was cringing for CE in a couple of places), he also seems bowled over by CE's acting - and how handsome he is in real life. He's not the first person to mention this weird anti-photogenicity...

I'm so grateful to have found him as an actor.

Have you managed to see anything else yet?

Date: 2006-10-31 03:07 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] meganlynn09.livejournal.com
Oh, it's not the acting that's the problem, no, if anything CE was the only one to be able to make something like that work. It's just acting looking at what he has to say, almost makes me cringe.

I don't think I've seen that clip.

Have you managed to see anything else yet?

*mumbles* No. But I'm trying, I have to use my parents computer and I hate downloading on it.

One thing that's going to maybe bother me is that it seems like Gwen is pretty much the main character. It doesn't feel like Jack's the lead, so much as the boss, and Gwen is the POV character. Jack feels more like Charlie on Charlie's Angels! If that makes any sense...

We did originally get the spin-off for more Captain Jack. I suppose I'd like more scenes exploring his character and past say, or maybe scenes of him shagging *g*

I am really liking Gwen, just wishing the focus was more on Jack. Last night was a good episode though :)

I know what you mean. I was taken aback by how Gwen-heavy the trailers seemed and the show itself as well. I think that's contributing to the Gwen-hate, but that just bothers me more.

I would love some more Jack scenes, all would be forgotten if he'd just take off his shirt!

I trying to like Gwen! But am starting to conclude that Rusty just writes a sort of female lead that doesn't grab me and manages to hit a few of my character anti-kinks. I am hoping she won't hurt the nice boyfriend too much, cos for some reason he's grown on me.

I think Gwen/Toshiko could work. I am so multishipping this, whee! And Jack/Hand. But I can live with him cheating on the hand, cos it's only a hand. I think Jack/Gwen's the canonship, though? From the looks of it at least. Maybe it'll be a slow burn though.

I think this was the best ep so far. That seems like a good sign, no?

Oh I know. Gwen/Tosh could totally work. Jack/Hand, shudders. Sorry, it squicks me. A lot. But I'm for everyone else hooking up with everyone else. I'm kinda hoping that Jack/Gwen isn't the canon ship. A part of me's thinking they're pushing them and then someone else will come in.

I'm borderline shiping them, I love Gwen's boy, he seems really cool but ultimately I think the writers will end it eventually because the job's going to take so much time. Anyway that's what I think. I kinda think they compliment one another well, but I don't think Jack is ready to be in love again, he's still too in love with our Doctor and Rose.

I am however, 100% with you on the gun scene! HOT!!!!! I mean wow! Lol! I really want JAck to grab the device and see flashbacks to the Boomtown, but at the same time I knew it woudln't happen, but I kinda wanted it too. Jack was very good in this one, JOhn should be proud he's doing a beautiful job.

And I for one love Gwen, I don't know who hates her, but I loved her as Gwenneth in The Undead and I love her in this, more in this actually she has such a personality to her, she sorta reminded me or Rose in a way but sorta her own person too, I like that about her. She's a strong woman. The writers have such a beautiful gift for writing both strong men and women, as well as emotional scenes too, it's a skill!

From: [identity profile] meganlynn09.livejournal.com
I don't think love would come into the equation, but I really think the writers and everyone are just teasing us.

With regards to the flashbacks, he'd have to be in the exact places that he was in in "Boom Town", that's how the flashes were happening.

I honestly don't see too much to compare Rose and Gwen, but I personally really like Gwen.

Also? All the Gwen-hate is getting me down. I can see why some might not like her, but wow. It makes me pout.

In all honesty, Gwen *does* irritate me slightly, I don't hate her though! But the problem I have with her, is more to do with the cr@ppy dialogue she's fed, than her as a character. I do think the Gwen hate is more because the show's NOT a "Jack centric," as many thought it would be. Hopefully that will change soon.

Date: 2006-10-30 11:32 pm (UTC)

I get that. While this last episode was probably the best, the dialogue wasn't that good.

Gwen-hate? Happily I've not come across it. I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, except for the very end part which seemed a little...off. Not even sure how to describe it.

Yes, the gun scene was sexy, but I don't ship them either. I ship Gwen and Rhys. :D *pets them*

What I loved most in this episode was how perfectly the music, sound effects and story meshed together. Really heightened the tension.

Ditto and ditto. But I can believe that Jack would have mad!hot chemistry with someone he'd never end up with.

I loved Gwen seeing those happy moments and making sure she's really paying attention to her guy, kudos to the writers to doing that.

I love her boyfriend, and I love their relationship. I really hope that he doesn't either a) turn into Mickey Smith part deux, or b) get killed. I like him a lot and I hope she keeps him.

I meant Mickey so far as Mickey getting dumped and his heart broken. I actually like Rhys a lot better than I did Mickey at first. Mickey only really grew on me in series 2. And I can also definitely do without the nagging, because in that he does lean rather perilously close to Mickey-Smith-ness.

I think Jack/Gwen are hot but I'm actually not shipping them. I think they're just teasing us and will give us something surprising. Or I have too much hope in this show.

I actually don't mind that it's sort evolving to an ensemble show. I'd be more upset with the lack of Jack if the show was named after him, like Doctor Who.
