[livejournal.com profile] manticoran posted something that led to me wanting to share with you my top 5 characters that I will always love, no matter what.

1. Nine - Doctor Who - Is anyone really surprised that he'd be here? I'm actually surprised by how much I just love this character. It's even hard to put into words sometimes. It's the connections I feel he makes with all the people he met that I think I really liked. It's not something I can express fully because it's a combination of his actions, his emotions, and my feelings that really add up to him being my #1.

2. Dr. Abby Lockhart - ER - As the years went on for the series, the decline in famililar actors and characters and the writing became sloppy, Abby emerged and just took charge. When I grow up, I wanna be her. She's one of the toughest female characters on TV and so extremely human. Outspoken, smart, pretty and independent while maintaining relationships and working in such a hellish hospital. This place as one of my fave characters was cemented with the episode "Secrets and Lies" in the 8th season, which is my favorite episode.

3. Luke Danes - Gilmore Girls - I don't watch the show anymore, for good reason, and even though they've poorly written his character in the past season, I still love him because of the first 5 seasons. It wasn't Lorelai or Rory that pulled me into this show, it was the unshaven grouch that got me to watch. He had a no-nonsense attitude, and sometimes seemed like he should just stop interacting with people. But then, Lorelai's father lands in the hospital and he drops everything to rush her to him and comfort her, her daughter and her mother whom he just met. He's Lorelai's best friend, and I love him for that.

4. Lee Adama - Battlestar Galactica - The first episode I saw was "Act of Contrition", and my whole focus ended up on Lee. His fucked up relationship with his dad, his fucked up, sexually charged sometimes, relationship with his dead brother's fiance and best friend, the stick up his ass, his relationship with the President (that the writers unfortunately dropped), his morals. Everything about him drew me in, I don't know why but there it is.

5. This one's almost a tie, but this one edges out: Dr. Luka Kovac - ER - He's had one of the most engaging storylines I've ever seen. He came on, almost as a replacement for George Clooney's character, had an interesting relationship with Abby, and then went through this phase where I couldn't hate him but I loathed what he was doing. His backstory is heart wrenching (his wife and two little children were killed in a war in his home country of Croatia). But when he cleaned up his act, I was so happy, and he had a real relationship. Now he and Abby are back together, and I have to admit, when I do watch the show now, it's only for them because I'm dying to see their happy ending.

(The one that almost tied was John Carter from ER as well, but he lost some points when he went straight from Abby to Kem)

Honorable Mention(in other words #6) - Elizabeth Weir - Stargate: Atlantis - The only reason she's not in the top five is because she's only within the last three or four months, these loves have been a little longer. But I thought she deserved a mention.

The rest, to round out the top ten:
Chloe Sullivan - Smallville
Veronica Mars - Veronica Mars
Keith Mars - Veronica Mars
Dr. John Carter - ER (thought I'd put him in there anyway!)

Nine - Doctor Who - Is anyone really surprised that he'd be here?

I am shocked! :-P

Nine rocks so much it's hard to put it in words. :D

It is! It just goes to show how much love for this man messes with the head where I can clearly state why I love other characters and not him!

I love Nine. He was perfect for that role. I keep hoping Ten will grow on me, but so far I just feel meh about him.

Nine's awesomeness really can't be put into words, can it?
It's like trying to explain why you like chocolate!

How about Nine and chocolate?

This little meme has encouraged procrastinatory thoughts in me, which I am trying mightily to resist. I am surprised to realize, however, that should I be limited to one Christopher Eccleston role, Nine might not be it! Ay! David Bilborough, all cuddly and smartass and responsible. Drew MacKenzie, so idealistic and dedicated and passionate and hard-headed and clueless. Nine is perhaps more epic, but there's something so real about his Jimmy McGovern characters.

Both sound delicious!

I suppose I should be lucky this is the only role I've seen CE on in TV. I should be looking into seeing all those other performances.

I've thought about it, and I've decided Nine wins because he is like David and Drew, he's just more so. And, frankly, CE is sexier now than he was when he was 30. You're more likely to meet someone like David or Drew (or Jim Calvert from Clocking Off), but since it's fantasy, why not go for Nine?

You should really try out Revengers Tragedy. Vindici is kind of Nine out of control. And it's easily accessible on Netflix.

CE is sexier now because he got rid of the floppy hair, and like some men, he just gets better with age. God forbid when he turns 80!

My sister is currently working on my dad to get Netflix, there will be no stopping me when we do.

Nine! Abby! And I was such a Carter/Abby shipper back in the day (I even embarassing wrote fic, which I should really take down from various sites). They crushed my heart right proper, they did. I also like Luka, though I haven't seen the show for a while.

And you know my deep love for Nine. He was smashing.

OMG, I didn't even mention how much I loved Abby/Carter, I was ready to write hate mail when they did that. I saw no good reason for them to break them up! My heart's still crushed, although the current relationship with Luka and Abby(they have a son now) is mending it.

Oh Nine, you stole my heart and it shall never return!

I want to play. I did this a long time ago in someone else's LJ, so I am just c&ping it here.

1) Cordelia Chase (Buffy and Angel) - I watched her grow and evolve from the very first episode of Buffy right onto her final appearance on Angel. I loved that she could be a shallow bitch, but was always willing to help the team and later in Angel became his lifeline and helped save the world.

2) Veronica Mars (Veronica Mars) - Smart, snarky, witty, tough as nails and yet full of compassion and a sense of fair play. Veronica proves that you need no superpowers or friends with special abilities to get the job done. She uses her instincts and is determined to get to the heart of a mystery. She has suffered greatly, but uses that to help others while making some dough with her mad PI skills.

3) Rose Tyler (Doctor Who) - Fueled with an adventurous spirit and a kind heart, Rose is fiercely loyal and brave under completely extroadinary circumstances. She has street smarts and a knack for getting into trouble. Rose will stand in the face of danger and fight for others. She loves to learn and explore and showed that a young shop girl from Earth could help heal and give strength to one of the universe's most powerful beings.

4) Buffy Summers (Buffy) - Buffy never asked to be the world's protector, but she took the responsibility with honor and put others before herself time and time again. Buffy created a family and did all in her power to keep that family safe. There was nothing she wouldn't do for her sister Dawn and no fight she would run away from. It was Buffy's destiny to be a hero and she always was.

5) Deanna Troi (Star Trek: The Next Generation) - I felt she was tne unsung hero on the Enterprise. She was an empath who served the emotional needs of those on board and used her abilities to help the crew in many ways. Deana was a source of quiet strength and comfort for everyone on and off the ship.

Those are awesome choices. I adored Cordelia! I hated what they did with her character in Season 4, because I missed having the real Cordy around. And absolutely sobbed with her last Angel episode, ever. She was a great character.
