OK, there is NO character bashing within from me!  I swear, I don't want to bash any characters, so I didn't here.  Please read and enjoy!

I really liked this episode.  I thought everything was well done and the writers and producers and everyone definitely set up the next season!

First, Baltar.  Slimiest character that ever slimed.  James Callis is truly amazing in this role, because he made me hate him and pity him.  He is so easily manipulated it's sad.  And he's still so naive.  He actually believed that Roslin would not try and steal the election, and this was after she confronted him, quite desperately.  I actually love what the writers are doing to Baltar because I understand him the best, if that makes sense.  He's not my favorite character, but he's the easiest for myself to read.  He's truly fascinating.

Roslin, I have always loved her.  After everything she has done, I was still shocked that she was willing to steal the election.  I don't know why.  You know she was willing to have Cain killed and that would have caused the death of Kara, and if Lee had made it back in time, him as well because they would not have gotten out of the CIC after they killed Cain.  But it didn't have to come to that, so we didn't see how Roslin would have handled the aftermath but seeing how she reacted with trying to steal the election, I don't think we would have seen a very positive reaction.  So, I was kinda glad that Adama was able to talk her out of it, but at the same time I was yelling at them both to shut the fuck up and let it go.  By the end, I had no problem yelling at the screen, "Told you so!"

Kara/Lee/Anders.  It is no secret that I didn't like Kara in that scene.  Let me elaborate.  The audience was able to see this mature leader in Kara in LDYB Pt. 1, and then she gets Anders back and that maturity is gone.  I didn't like that.  Even before Lee came in the room, I was angry that Kara thought about celebrating with alcohol instead of more, um, different alternatives.  Then Lee comes in.  We all saw what happened.  And that is why Kara should never drink again.  Not because she hurt Lee, but because she's so careless and selfish when she does.  And I hated to see Lee hurt, and Kara shouldn't have seen his anguish, because like many out there, she would have jumped on the fact that he is with someone else.  I like though, that the audience gets to see that he doesn't fully like his choice.  He could have remained single, because Kara didn't want him, she wanted Anders, or do what he did and have Dualla.  He seems to really like Dualla, but I do feel like she's the second choice, just like Lee would be to Kara because Kara married Anders.

Lee.  I love Lee.  I have since "You Can't Go Home Again" because that was the first episode I saw.  I have had very few issues with him and they started with "Black Market".  I can actually understand the wanting something off ship, but I can't explain the hooker, so I won't try.  I hate that the writers were so terrible with the Lee/Dualla storyline, it could have been done so much better.  I'm not objecting to the romance, it doesn't make me sick like everyone else (but for some reason Kara/Anders does, but I won't force my problems on you lovely readers).  I think the writers will need to take a different stance on the romance next season after the way the actors, Jamie and Kandyse, handled their last scene.  It was kinda cold and distant and I just get this picture in my head  that Lee and Dualla got engaged, she got pregnant, lost the baby and Lee withdrew, and after they jump from New Caprica, Dualla gives Lee back the ring.  That's my story and sometime in the next few months, I'll probably write that fic.

The Cylons.  Bravo.  You worked the humans over very well.  Now, prepare to have your asses kicked!

Adama, shave.  And kick your son's ass into gear, he needs to visit the gym, and stay off the noodles.

Surprisingly, I'm not that interesting in the year that was skipped.  That mystery, I think, is cool and it's nice to fill in the blanks yourself once in a while because in this case, we don't need the info, we see where that year has them at in the present, I feel we don't need to know what got them there.  Besides, isn't it more fun to come up with our own reason for Kara and Lee's estrangement?  They'll probably use flashbacks to show us and we'll probably be disappointed.  I don't want to be.

So, let me know what you agree with and what you don't. please!

I think the writers, if they are careful and if they decide to kill Anders, which seems to be the way they are going, can get Kara and Lee back on the path to eventually getting together.  How?  Pure speculation, (based on the assumption that Anders dies), when the fleet gets back together, I think Lee will be happy to see her.  Just like "Home Pt. 1", they parted on terrible terms, but now they can reunite with the fact that they are both okay and alive and that feeling of victory that they didn't die.  They will have to rebuild that friendship they had, and the trust, and eventually that love that they both have buried deep down inside them at the moment.  I always believed that if you truly are in love with a person, you don't fall out of love.  It seems stupid, but I don't think you love someone one minute and don't the next.  Lee and Kara will never be able to fully let go of one another, no matter how many other people they date or marry.

So, I think I need to get that fic about Lee and Dualla written.  I really think the writers would be doing themselves a favor by breaking them up.  So, what do you all think about my fic idea?  (Lee and Dualla got engaged, she got pregnant, lost the baby and Lee withdrew, and after they jump from New Caprica, Dualla gives Lee back the ring, breaking up)

And I am now a fan of Doctor Who, it was a pure pleasure to watch last night!

First, Baltar.
James Callis is pure gold. I can't quite conceive of how he manages to make Baltar so descipable and so sympathetic at the same time. He was by far the MVP of this episode.

Kara/Lee/Anders
Much like Baltar, I hate how Kara behaves sometimes, but I can't hate the character. Katee is just too damn good. Honestly though, I felt as sorry for Anders as I did for Lee. Did Kara want a husband or a lapdog? I don't think he'll die, but if he stays around I hope he grows more of a backbone or I won't be able to respect him.

The sad truth is that Kara's disrespect toward Lee really wasn't new. She's an alcoholic, but she has usually been stone-sober when she's behaved selfishly and insensitively toward Lee, and that's been a consistent state of behavior ever since the mini-series. Lee accepted that Kara doesn't love him and had moved on to a relationship with someone who does love and respect him, though we unfortunately only saw Lee's committment to Dee in the "previously on" montage. Even with Dee in his life though, Lee still believed that he could at least count on Kara as a friend. Unfortunately, Kara proved him wrong again and he finally saw her for the fair-weather friend that she's always been, someone who gladly takes all he can give but never gives anything back in return. Lee almost wrote Kara off in "The Captain's Hand," but he gave in one last time. It was a painful revelation then for Lee to accept that someone he genuinely cared about had such little regard to offer him in return, but the lesson was finally learned. Kara proved that her only concern is with her own happiness and she really doesn't care about how Lee feels. Hence the result, one year later Lee remains with Dee but he has broken ties altogether with Kara.

Your scenario for Lee and Dee could make an interesting fanfic and if it interests you then I encourage you to run with it. But for season 3, such a scenario would require too much exposition about past events when they'll be trying to move a very the story forward. Simplicity will be the answer, and there really is a very simple way of viewing the scene between Lee and Dee that keeps the fanwank to a minimum. Dee is not only still with Lee she is now working with him side by side as his XO -- ie his trusted right hand. When Lee entered the CIC on Pegasus, he addressed Dee with comfortable familiarity until she handed him the phone. The source of the discomfort then was with Kara intruding into their lives again, not a situation between Lee and Dee. Something happened during that year (something that even Colonel Tigh knows all about!) that gave Lee cause to not even want to speak to Kara again. Such an event would of course give Dee (as the woman who loves Lee) reason to disklike Kara personally as well. So naturally Dee is not going to be happy that Kara is calling and asking for favors again, and Dee knows Lee isn't going to be happy about getting the call either, which he isn't. There is every reason to simply conclude that Lee and Dee are happy together, but they both want Kara to just leave them alone.

I think that Lee and Dee's relationship needs to be maintained for the time being, as does Kara's marriage to Anders. Otherwise Lee and Kara will fall right back into the pattern of being all about potential romantic friction rather that addressing the problem that required them to have to start over. The fact is that no true friendship between them ever really existed. They have never had a complete two-way friendship that was based upon mutal compassion and respect. This is something they need to establish and it could be best accomplished if they remain with other people for now. Take the sex and romance out of the equation and focus upon real friendship instead. They need to rebuild from ground zero in order to have anything genuine between them. Until they can build a mutally beneficial relationship, Lee is better off staying with Dee, which is the only healthy relationship that he's had since the Holocaust.

Thank you for this comment. You always have something insightful to say and I greatly enjoy that.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that would have liked to see more of the Lee/Dee relationship, if only to have a better understanding of it.

Personally I don't want to see anymore of Kara and Anders married, but that has nothing to do with Lee.

As for the fanfic idea, I already posted it if you want to check it out. I think I made it very simple as to the progression of the relationship as I saw at the end of the finale, but I think you are correct.

There is every reason to simply conclude that Lee and Dee are happy together, but they both want Kara to just leave them alone.

I think you are right, but that also makes me sad that Kara and Lee lost that friendship within the year (I don't like to think about who may have been the cause, I think it was probably something mutual, we'll probably find out in flashbacks).

Thank you again!

It's a total random hunch of mine, but since Colonel Tigh knew exactly what the flashpoint was that caused their falling out, the event was very likely a public one, and probably one where Kara was drinking again (since that seems to be when she really acts up the worst).

My Conclusion: Kara's wedding.
There's a scene in "When Harry Met Sally" where the bride and groom make a public toast that's really rather an insult to their friends... and I can just see a tipsy Kara doing something similar where she makes some comment along the lines of what she said in LDYB, insulting Lee's relationship with Dee... only Lee doesn't walk away quietly this time. Kaboom.

I'm sure I'll be proven wrong, but there's just something incredibly appealing (and twisted) about the idea of seeing Kara in a wedding dress and taking a swing at Lee.

I am actually thinking that something happened before the wedding, and Lee didn't come to her wedding and maybe Kara confronted him about it. I really don't know. I think there are a lot of ideas floating around that it has to do with Kara leaving the military and Lee taking it personally, but it seemed more personal then that. The writers better have a good idea and execute it well if they really want us to buy the rift.

Personally, I don't think they should have a flashback about Lee and Kara's estrangement. I think it's more interesting to leave something to the viewers' imagination. I dunno, I just hope I'm satisfied with what they do show.

Although, there really is something appealing (and twisted) about the idea of seeing Kara in a wedding dress and taking a swing at Lee.
