Author's Note: This is what I think should happen between Lee and Dualla immediately after the finale.

“Damnit!” Lee Adama stormed into his quarters. A whole frakking year! He hated telling his dad that they had to run, but it gave them the best chance. Get their act together, make a plan and get the people off of New Caprica. He pushed thoughts of Kara out of his head.

Dualla came into the room, having followed him out of command after their successful jump. The Cylons hadn’t followed, yet. She played with the ring on her left hand.

“Lee?” She didn’t see him upon coming in the room.

“Not right now Dee,” she heard from the bedroom. Eight months of living on the same ship and trying this relationship and she still felt a little uncomfortable in his quarters. It’s why she hardly spent the night.

“I just wanted to see if you were alright.”

“If I’m alright? We just left 40,000 people behind for the Cylons to go Gods know what! I’m not exactly doing a dance.” He walked back into the room to let Dee know this. He ignored the fact that she asked him this nearly daily since last month, before the Cylons came back to frak with their lives. Don’t think about it.

“And you think I’m happy? We had to jump, Lee. We had no chance-” “I know that!” She stared at him when he cut her off. Turning slightly so she wasn’t facing him, she took a deep breath. She reminded herself that this was okay; he wasn’t suppressing himself this time.

She nodded her head. “I’ll just let you alone to your thoughts then.” She left without looking back at him. He just went back to pacing in his bedroom.

*29 Days since the jump away from New Caprica*

She placed the ring on the table in front of him. He stared at it before sitting back in his chair, he had thankfully finished his meal, and sighed. Surprise that she did this now showed on his face. The fact that she was doing it at all was not unexpected.

“Do we have to do this now Dee?” She looked back at him, somewhat annoyed.

“Do what, Lee? All that needed to be done was give you the ring back. This was over too long ago, you know that.” She turned away, again, determined not to show even the slightest disgust.

“We can work this out.” It sounded rehearsed even to him.

“You can’t even bring yourself to touch me, not since I lost the baby, so what can we work out? A way for you to force yourself to hold my hand?” She deflated at his hurt look. It had been a long few months.

“I’m sorry.” He looked away from her hurt look at his words. He owed her that apology a long time ago.

“So am I.” She looked at the papers on the table. “How is the planning coming along? Have you come up with anything different since yesterday?”

“Not really. I’m afraid that there won’t be anything to rescue.” His shoulders and back ached from all panicked feeling he carried around everyday.

“I sure with Tigh and Starbuck there’s some kind of resistance fighting back.” Dee was proud of herself for not stumbling over Starbuck’s name. But she didn’t mess Lee’s flinch.

He didn’t have anything else to say. He pushed thoughts of Kara from his head once again. He picked up the ring Dee had put down and gripped it in his hand. He wouldn’t have a use for it again. Dee put her hand on his shoulder, tightening before letting go. She gave him a small smile before heading for the door. Lee gave her a small smile in return. He didn’t wait to hear the door close before the smile left his face.

He thought to himself, before settling down for some sleep, that at least Kara had been happy.

I have been reading your review of LDYB II before reading your fic. I think your scenario is plausible. but I get the feeling that RDM won't go there.

anyway, I like your fic even if I'm not a lee/dee shipper. lee's withdraw won't surprise me.

Thank you. I don't think RDM will go there either, but I thought this would be nice. Thanks for the nice feedback!
