Doctor Who with Minor Ranting Included...

HOLY HELL WAS THAT AN EPISODE. Wasn't the best but fuck me, it was quite brillant for an RTD-written episode.



Holy fuck, when he went all "I AM THE MASTER" was that cheesy and I was totally eating it up and grinning and it was awesome and I think I'm already in love with John Simm.

The Rose stuff was really not as bad as I was expecting. Although the flashbacks were...unnecessary?...since they did a well enough job of explaining what happened. Although, the flashback to Rose from "The Parting of the Ways" would have been nicer if they included when the Doctor took the Vortex out of her. Or maybe I'm just hard up for some Nine/Rose. ;) Time to watch PotW again?

time_and_chips is to be taken off my f-list ASAP because I refuse to read about one more person saying I WANT MARTHA GONE and THE DOCTOR DOESN'T LIKE MARTHA and I DON'T LIKE MARTHA.

I thought Martha's reactions to the Rose mentions were fine actually. When Jack was so jubilant about Rose being again, I liked her little "Good ol' Rose". It's almost as if she wished she knew Rose, so she can be included on these things. Which is sweet.

And the blonde thing, sorry, I laughed.

And then when the Doctor was explaining about what Rose did to bring Jack back and her being "trapped" in the parallel world, Martha's reactions were fine because she obviously didn't know all that.

I just...Martha's great, I adore her and I think she works well with the Doctor, and Jack!, and I don't see why some people in fandom are afraid to like her.

I'm sorry but Billie decided she didn't want to be on Doctor Who anymore, she didn't want to play Rose Tyler any longer, and it's not like RTD would cast a new actress to play the same character. He continued the DW tradition of bringing on a new companion.

Billie/Rose isn't coming back and it's truly okay to like BOTH Rose and Martha for fuck's sake.

Also, it's a fucking insult to be "convinced" that Martha's gonna do something to jeopardize the Doctor. If someone thinks she's "jealous" enough of Rose's memory to do something like that, you're watching a completely different show or I've read her character wrong and RTD fucking hates us and wants us all to hate Martha.

Which ever.

Anyway. JACK'S BACK and I wasn't unhappy with how it was treated! Yay! I could have done with a punch, but that's okay. Just no kissing please. That's reserved for Nine and Jack only. OKAY FINE, I just don't think Ten in any way deserves it.

Am I the only one who laughed when Martha compared the Doctor's companions to stray dogs?

What is up with the uber-obsessive Rose fans? It kind of reminds me in DC comics, I just actually got into a fight the other day about it. Dick Grayson fans either love him with Babs or they love him with Kory, and the Dick/Babs fans I know get HUGELY pissed when I say that Kory wasn't just a replacement, that she was her own person. And the Rose/Martha fights seem exactly the same, most of the Martha fans I know are calm, intelligent, and not getting all worked up, and they're not saying Rose sucked (at least, most of them aren't), they're just saying that Rose wasn't the end-all-be-all. ::sigh::

I sometimes don't understand the Rose/Martha fights because...what's the point? By just bad-mouthing Martha, they're not making a good case for Rose and vice versa.

Martha's great, Rose was great, let's move on? *sigh* Why can't there ever be more rational people?

Exactly! In fact, the more people bash Martha and talk about how awesome Rose is, the less I find myself liking Rose--after all, what sort of character would have those sorts of fans?

Yep. The other day all I did was make a comment about how I thought the annuals were unfair to Kory, because they cast Babs as the sole love of Dick's life, and the person I was talking to flipped the fuck out. And I was like "Hey! I don't even LIKE Dick with women (obviously the "love of his life" position will come down to a battle of wits and tactics between Bruce, Slade, and Roy), I'm just being fucking fair!" It was crazy. And I loved it, the person kept ranting and ranting...and telling me to calm down, when I couldn't even get a word in! ::shakes head:: Dick/Babs is starting to leave a nasty taste in my mouth from all the rabid fangirls.

I know! Jack was just saying "hi" and making some smexy eye contact! Nothing he doesn't do with everyone. Ten obviously still has a little of Nine's possessiveness ^.^

I was dying of squee during the last ten minutes or so when it was all coming together, was so not expecting that! Hee, I'm just hoping to get through who-daily episode reviews without coming across the usual snotty remarks on Martha being so much better and smarter than that chav Rose *crosses fingers*

Oh and I did love that the Rose flashback was with season 1 Rose from PotW! I thought the Xmas Invasion flashback was more unnecessary though, because it wasn't even a moment to make viewers squee in rememberence, as Bad Wolf Rose was. We all knew he'd lost his hand there, why show it again *shrugs* But the conversation on the hand!!! LMAO!

I read that RTD said in the confidential that the flashbacks were more for newer viewers, to kind of give them a little taste of what's happened.

True, but they already explained in the conversation about the Doctor losing his hand! They didn't even show a clip of it regrowing I don't think, just it being chopped off? It seemed a bit of a time-filler to me, so I wasn't sure if the episode was running short, or what.

That's because you're posting on the shippers comm though...It was the same before the GITF even aired, people were hating "the other woman". The non shippy part of Who fandom seems fine witn Martha, from what I've seen? But time and chips is the comm where the current priority is Rose mentions, so I would imagine that a lot of the members see Martha as an intruder on the Rose/Doctor dynamic.

But then *cough* all the drooling over DT annoyed me last year as well, but I found if you just avoid certain comms like tennent love, it's not too bad among the rest of fandom. So yeah, I would say it's the same with time and chips, if you defriend that comm, then you probably won't even notice the bashing as much :)

I don't really think they toned Martha's reactions down here. The only time Martha got worked up over a Rose mention was all the way back in "The Shakespeare Code" when the Doctor pretty much dismissed Martha to think that Rose would know what to say (implying that Martha didn't).

YES. Actually that's what most of her expressions were like. She felt left out.

Yeah, and I think that's why her reactions didn't bother me. I mean, yeah, a few episodes ago, there were a few jealous reactions, but now, it's just like "It'd be nice to be included".

Finding out that Jack was left behind, Martha was trying to figure out if maybe that's what the Doctor does and Jack shots "Not if you're blonde", and he and Martha rib the Doctor about it. It's not a slight against Rose, at least it wasn't to me, it was just "OF course you'd have to be blonde". Or something. I don't know, struck me as funny.

I really don't know what's going to happen. And quite frankly, I want to be as surprised as I can be.

For some reason, Jack/Ten makes me cringe.

Loved the episode. Loved the discussion the Doctor and Ten had about Rose. Martha's jealousy really makes her look bad. She needs to get a new hobby, because the good ole Rose and he doesn't see me stuff isn't attractive.

Again, I kind of always read your posts and wonder what I miss. The T&C post got to be too much and was cleaned up, but I see so many people hating on Rose more then ever while shutting down anyone who says a word against Martha whith you're a rabid shipper or OMG you racist comments. The haters talk about Rose more then her fans do IMO. Some people actually have issue with Martha's characterization and it has nothing to do with Rose whatsoever. And no I don't think Billie or Rose are returning, but in every fandom people speculate about their faves returning. Everyone knows companions leave (shout quiet_fractures) but people are still going to spec just as others do about the old school companions returning. But I can understand your frustration. Because I feel that way whenever I see I am going to like Martha no matter what and no one can point out her flaws because she is just the bestest posts.

Sometimes I wonder what I miss as well because I just don't see this hatred against Rose. Then again, I really don't read posts on doctorwho, so...

I just...don't understand the Rose hate, she's not there anymore, why let it continue to get your panties in a twist? (You=general) And if you hate Martha, well...stop watching? Sometimes it just feels like the most pointless thing in the world.

Yeah, I don't get the hate either or the ultra love of her just because she isn't Rose and not because of her own merits. And I really think I could take some of the love more seriously if it didn't seem so fake. Like omgz I must love her cause she isn't Rose and I started saying that before she was on the show. I thought Martha was cool in Utopia. I did feel her reactions were petty not wistful and I didn't care for it, I am not a fan of the woe is me he will never see me stuff, but she did other things to impress me. LOL I wish I didn't see all the Rose hate. But like you and me, people rant and sometimes my flist which has quite a few old school fans on it get annoyed at the constant Rose bashing and talk about it on their LJs. The racist comment still has me shaking my head.

But I agree. I have never understood when anyone watches something if they dislike it so much, but then there are those who wouldn't know what to do if they liked a show (any show.) They live to bitch.

it's a shipping community, you can't expect people to react rationally. I mean, this is not specific to Doctor Who. The SPN fandom is allergic to love interests. The Paire fandom is allergic at the idea that Claire could get a boyfriend. Every shipping communities are the same. I don't want to say that it's right, just want you to understand that it's not specific to Doctor Who and thus not specific to Martha... If you think you can't handle the Martha hate, then you should really take time_and_chips from your flist.
Honestly, sometimes I'm sad because I feel like you try so much to defend Martha that you tend to be really harsh on Ten and Rose to counterbalance, and I know you don't hate those two characters. But yeah, sometimes, it feels like you do :( So I'd actually suggest you take time_and_chips off so you'll be able to enjoy the Doctor, Rose and Martha in a more peaceful way :)

And thank you so much for being honest. I truly didn't think I was being harsh towards Rose (yeah, I know I am sometimes to Ten), but I honestly never tried to be harsh on Rose and I'm sorry that it seems like I have.

It's my frustration because I do like Martha so much, and I hate to think that by ranting as I do, it turns around into something I've been ranting about.

Because, I genuinely like Ten now, and of course I loved Rose and it burns to see people bash Rose in favor of Martha about as much as people bashing Martha in favor of Rose.

Personally, I felt the only time I may have been harsh on Rose was back when "The Shakespeare Code" aired, but I'm sorry if it seemed like it here. I truly didn't mind the Rose talk in this episode.

if Jack had beaten the shit out of Ten, it would have been one of the happiest moments of my life.

the good ol' Rose line approaches classic. and i also loved the blond joke. it made me wonder if i could do some sort of statistical anaylsis to see if blond companions were less likely to be abandoned by The Doctor. however, i bet that i would find that Jack's hypothesis was not true. i consider Rose to be abandoned because The Doctor tried to banish her to Earth in season 1 and then to banish her to the paralell world in season 2. and i can only think of two other blond companions: Polly (who i have no idea what happened to) and Ramona 2.
