Battlestar Galactica
Apr. 18th, 2006 06:37 pmOkay, I have a question regarding Kara. It's not really about her, but it involves her and this past season. Behind a cut for those that haven't seen the finale.
So, comments? There's no bashing here, I've come to a point where I can love all the characters. Until the show returns. :)
So my question starts back at "The Farm". Was it a given that if Kara did rescue Anders and all the survivors that they would immediately start a relationship? I've pretty much have excepted that they are married, I can actually understand and from the finale point of view, can see why they did that. But, am I the only one who thought that Anders would get rescued and he and Kara would NOT have a relationship?
I keep thinking about it, the show likes to take things in the unexpected directions, what would be more unexpected then Kara and Anders parting ways after she rescues him? What do you all think? Was it always supposed to be a guarantee that they would be a couple if he was rescued? Or were we supposed to wonder?
On the other hand, I can see why they have her married and on the planet after the one year, this was set up back in "Valley of Death" when she said she was fighting because that was all she knew. Now, she has something new: a relationship, a marriage, so she wants to expand on that. That thill of flying is gone because there is nothing motivating about it. So, she has this guy that adores her, she adores him, they get married, move to the planet (I may have the order wrong), she has something new to fight for. That's what her character is to me, always finding something to fight for. That's probably why her and Lee can't get it together, because I don't think she would have ever had to fight for him (since her return in season 2). She's a hard character for my to connect to, but I can understand that that's a pretty strong character trait of hers that I can see. She's a fighter, and this living on a new planet with a guy is something that she's fighting for, she's fighting to succeed with this kind of life.

Date: 2006-04-19 12:32 am (UTC)The reason she and Lee can't get it together I think is pretty simple. Kara wants to call all the shots and do everything on her own terms. She wants to be adored and placed on a pedastal, without any demands upon her. Lee knows her too well to do that. He has expectations and demands a level of conduct that she can't live up to. Lee, on the other hand, wants a partnership built on mutual respect. They just aren't compatible as anything more than friends, and even that is currently in serious doubt.
