Doctor Who and Other
Mar. 3rd, 2008 06:44 pmSo, Sci-Fi had a Doctor Who marathon on Friday, and it was all S1, and I caught "The Empty Child" and it's still a fucking awesome episode! :D
I remembered why I first fell in love with Nine with that episode, why Nancy is one of the best DW guest stars, and found that the Jack/Rose parts weren't as...tedious as I remembered. The Jack/Rose scenes used to bother me for some reason, don't know, never really got the chemistry there, but watching those scenes again on Friday, they're kinda fun. They're a needed break from what Nine's doing. They're still not a ship I'd ever really enjoy.
And the hospital scene is just fantastic (with Nine and that doctor). The episode (well, episodes, when including "The Doctor Dances") is my favorite of S1 right now. Until I watch "The End of the World" or "The Long Game" or "The Unquiet Dead" again ;)
And then, there was a repeat of "The Lazarus Experiment" on BBC America on Sunday, and I had forgotten what a great episode it was! I enjoy the relationship between Martha and the Doctor in that one a lot. I also noticed what an cool family dynamic Martha's family has.
Her brother is the momma's boy, and Tish seems to take sides and takes Martha's, probably something that happened a lot when they were kids (Tish is the oldest, yeah? She looks like the baby), and while Martha loves her mother, she definitely doesn't listen to her often. It's kinda fun to see all that, while sad when I think about that dynamic later :(
Also, did we ever find out why "Mr. Saxon" was warning Martha's mom? I don't remember. Was is just a way to lure the Doctor in? Yeah, I feel like a dork asking because that's probably what it was!
Question, does anyone know if Freema is shorter than Billie because she looks so much smaller next to David than I remember Billie looking.
And hey! I got some icons posted over at my graphics comm (haven't posted in about a month!) of Stardust. That was a fun movie! Anyway, they're all here.

Date: 2008-03-04 02:23 am (UTC)The Lazarus Experiment is perhaps the only episode where I only wanted to smash Ten's head in once. It's probably the one really enjoyable episode in his run, other than Blink (although he's more annoying in Blink, despite less screentime).
I seem to remember Freema is 5'2", whereas Billie is 5'4". So yes, I think she is shorter.

Not much there, but I suppose shoes really made the difference perhaps. Freema never really seemed small until she was right next to David. I'm surprised they didn't put her on a box :)

Date: 2008-03-04 06:23 pm (UTC)The Lazarus Experiment is one of my favorites of S3, in large part because we get to see the Doctor interact with Martha's family for the first time. For some reason, I get a serious kick out of him meeting her mother, every time I watch it. The Lazarus monstor, though? I found that a bit crack-y. I loved the idea of him sucking the life out of people, but did he have to turn into a giant crab thing?
As for the thing with Mr. Saxon wanting to warn Francine--def. a ploy to get at Martha and the Doctor.

And hey, thanks for coming over and checking out my post! I love that.

My pleasure! I'm relatively new to fandom and having fun making the rounds!
