Doctor Who
Jun. 2nd, 2008 02:09 pmHey! I just watched "Silence in the Library".
My thoughts are under the cut, not very many, sorry. Although, a little longer than I expected.
Was I watching the same episode everyone else was? I, um, see no reason as to why River Song was so annoying as so many found her. Is it that I'm used to Alex Kingston's acting? I saw nothing sinister in how she acted or found her really annoying either.
I mean, after she really found out the Doctor didn't know her yet, she did seem to have problems keeping some comments to herself, but I felt that was real. I mean, you meet someone that you know, but doesn't know you, it's going to be hard to censor yourself, it's natural.
Although, her "I'm not just anyone" line was...a little awkward, and I didn't care for it, I thought everything else was handled really well.
I did like the scene where she was trying to figure out where in her timeline the Doctor's coming from (and I found it hilarious that she thought the Doctor was pretending, didn't seem like it was the first time he did that with her) and then finding out that it's not really her Doctor.
And why was the Doctor so perplexed? In all his 900+ years, he never ran into someone who knew him but he didn't know them?
And why was Donna so snippy with her? OH, is that why so many find River annoying? Because Donna inexplicably does? I mean, seriously you guys, I was expecting to go into this episode and coming out just not liking River, no matter it was Alex Kingston.
So...what episode did everyone else watch that they hope River Song dies?
Okay, no, I didn't see a lot of that, and yet I DID see some comments that said that and now I'm utterly confused.
Anyway, I'm confused on other comments I saw as well, Donna did not seemed pushed to the side at all. In fact, unlike other Moffat's episodes, I feel this was the most involved a companion has ever been in one of his stories.
Anyway, I have some thoughts in my head as to how this could all turn out, but I'm not sharing, they're too messed up and I can't really put them down. I hope the conclusion is more...something than that trailer suggested, heh.
I liked it quite a lot, in case I didn't make that clear. I think Moffat did really well with all the characters he's introducing, I didn't feel scared, but the last 10 or so minutes had wonderful tension to them, but I don't know who to credit, the writer or the director?
Sorry, there's too many thoughts in my head after that episode.
Can't wait for next week :D
Um...whoever is putting together the trailers for previews of the next episodes, dude, you're not doing a very good job. This is the second or third time this season I'm left praying that the episode turns out better than the preview suggests.

Date: 2008-06-02 11:07 pm (UTC)I'm not quite sure why River irritated me. It wasn't a huge irritation, but it was a niggle, and I think it was in part because I do know and like Alex Kingston's acting - and this seems a little cutesy. But I'm also thinking this may be a clue. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all falls out.

See, that's the problem I'm having. Everyone's waiting for the twist with her character, and I'm not. Not in any of his stories has there been a big to-do about the characters introduced, or a big twist (this point could be argued, but as I think about it, I really believe there hasn't been). So, I guess that's what's weird to me, I'm not waiting for the other shoe to drop with River, and everyone else is.
And you know why River irritated you, she fancied Ten! Hehe, sorry, but it is a little true! *grins*

Date: 2008-06-03 01:04 am (UTC)I know what you mean, thinking about it now. But still, with some many things happening, with all the twists that are bound to turn up in the conclusion, I won't be so disappointed if River Song: Future Whatever to the Doctor is just that.
