Can anyone (who watched Merlin of course!) point me in the direction of interviews with producers/PTB of the show? I wanna know if they've talked about what they're trying to do.
I mean, when Robin Hood started, and they were trying to put a fresh spin on it, I figured that's fine! I just...I also figured there's not a lot to mess around with. But of course, they fucked with us there.
BUT, with the Arthurian legend, they have so many ways to go, I just want a clue because there are so many ways to go and I like everyone (although, I do hope they go the way with Morgana that I think they will)! I'd just like a clue :(
So, because I love this version of Guinevere, I grew curious about other ways she's been portrayed.
And I looked up for versions of the legend before Lancelot was introduced to the tale. It...wasn't much better. Apparently a couple stories have her marry Mordred. *sighs*
I don't know, there seems to never be a story, EVER, of King Arthur that Guinevere and Arthur end up still together/happy (written 'cause the movie a couple years ago with Clive Owen didn't follow any written story) - which, okay, I get. *pouts* I mean, yes the tragedy is what really attracts me to the legend, but the HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY show, I don't want misery!
I'm so so so happy that
icon_reich has icons for this show. I don't think I'd have found a Morgana icon I liked as much as this one. Desperately can't wait to see if she does more.
And I wanted to share
I don't know. I always like the "doomed" characters. (i.e. Nine, Elizabeth Weir, Tosh and a couple more) And apparently the least liked characters. (i.e. Elizabeth, Martha Jones, Tosh didn't get a lot of love, Nine sometimes, Lee Adama never gets love anymore, and I think I was the last to love Jack from Lost)
And I adore Gwen here. (IT'S ALWAYS THE FUCKING CHARACTERS THAT HAVE UNREQUITED LOVE, FUCKING ALWAYS - although, it's not really bad here, it's different in this case - wait, is it really unrequited? Or at least unrequited love? Crush, yes. But Merlin didn't seem so upset about that kiss she planted on him AT. ALL.)
I have this feeling that of the four younger adults, Gwen's the least liked. Which is weird because I've never found a version where I liked Guinevere. (again, I'm excluding Clive Owen's version)
Basically, I just wrote out why I most likely won't be joining this fandom.
OH, FOOD'S DONE BYE!

Date: 2009-01-07 04:09 pm (UTC)Yeah, it'd take a lot I think to make this Gwen cheat. And while I think it'd be great to end on Arthur's coronation, I so want this show to go long enough to finish their take until the end with Arthur and Mordred. heh, I'm really morbid like that.
Well, I don't know if it's that they don't like Nine, I just pout when I see people say they prefer Ten, YOU KNOW ME!
I wonder if some people are already judging Gwen because they're assuming a future affair? I don't know, I feel all four of them got some good development just for the fact that I get them, I understand them so I'm good :D I'm telling you, I'm definitely favoring Arthur/Gwen.

Date: 2009-01-10 02:46 am (UTC)Heh, yeah, that'd be pretty horribly sad, wouldn't it. OH, a plan, that's ALWAYS a good thing. 5 years, that sounds really good, actually.
HOW COULD THERE BE A COMPETITION, IT'S NINE.
I would be okay with Morgana/Arthur but only to a point and they can't be like OMG WE CAN'T BE TOGETHER WOE IS US, WE ARE A TRAGIC LOVE STORY
Let's hope they didn't take TOO much from Smallville in this department. ;) Man, I'm really giddy about the possibilities of Gwen/Arthur.

Date: 2009-01-07 02:01 pm (UTC)Also in terms of TPTB and their intentions, well I listened to a Q&A thingo they did and it's supposed to be like Smallville, where we see them before the legend. So I'm sure there's going to be some winding roads for these characters before they all end up in their rightful legendary places.

Date: 2009-01-07 04:42 pm (UTC)Wow, I'm sorry. It's not this, it's...other things and my bad mood because it's dark outside and it's 11:30am.
And I'm really blown away that Morgana isn't getting more love. OH, I forgot Gwen from TW. heh She's like the ultimate least liked character. It makes me sick and totally kept me away from the full-blown fandom.
I owe you a hug for that *nods*

**A bit spoilery for the series, but I'm going with it**: Guy Gavriel Kay's Fionavar Tapestry ('The Summer Tree,' 'The Wandering Fire' and 'The Darkest Road') are not only amazing, gorgeously written fantasy novels in their own right, they also deal with the Lance/Arthur/Gwen love triangle in a way I've not seen before. To be fair, it's only one thread in the overall story, but it's so well done it bears mentioning.
