So, with the new challenge on

picspammy (so addictive!), I had about 1,000 ideas for a picspam.

I picked Martha first because I've actually been in the middle of writing a new fic about her, so she was on my mind, and it's a little easier for me, heh.

SO...

Maybe she’s my favorite for personal reasons, but I don’t care because this is the person I see when I watch these episodes, so…here we go!

OH MARTHA. She’s sweet, compassionate, funny, loyal, smart, strong, opinionated, stubborn, was used to carrying her heart on her sleeve but figured out when enough was enough, she grew up and put her foot down when she needed to and stood up for herself. She’s a hard worker and does what she thinks is right. Who else would like to be Martha Jones when they grow up? :D

MARTHA
I know it's hard to believe, Owen, but I wasn't thinking of you.
JACK

She’s a geek! No, really, she is! Makes sci-fi/fantasy references. Seems to love the movies. Just about totally upgrades herself because of it, I think ;)

MARTHA:
It’s not the outfit, that’s just you. Anyway, I think it suits you. In a James Bond kind of way.

MARTHA
I saw it on a film…They used to do it in submarines. Trouble is, I can't remember what they did next.

She’s a doctor. And I personally love doctors on shows. They have nurturing personalities, I believe, even if most of them have outstanding egos. With Martha, she takes care of her patient(s) without regard for herself because it doesn’t matter the circumstance, she’s a doctor, and if you’re her patient, she’ll take care of you.

(Martha sees Swales and stops by her.)
MARTHA
How much oxygen is there?
SWALES
Not enough for all these people. We're going to run out.

MARTHA
Great. What do I do now, congratulate my kidnappers?
CHEEN
Oh, we're not kidnappers. Not really.
MARTHA
Nope. You're idiots! You're having a baby, and you're wearing that?
(rips the “drug patch” off of Cheen's neck)

Let me examine it. Keep still. Still, yeah? No move! Half fish, half human, how'm I supposed to know? Is that a shoulder? Feels like a shoulder! I think it’s dislocated.
(Several Hath march in and point guns at Martha)
I’m trying to help him! I am a doctor and he is my patient, and I’m not leaving him!

MARTHA
And you’ve got to pick it up.
DOCTOR
Shine your torch through it. Composite organic matter. Martha? Medical opinion?
MARTHA
It’s not human. I know that.

She works to keep the world safe. She looks at the bigger picture, IMO, and while there were times we didn’t understand or thought she might have been doing the wrong thing, her heart was in the right place and she did anything/everything she could to do what she felt was right.

She does whatever is in her power to help the Doctor keep people safe and she’s amazingly spirited about it. Never gives up.

In this category, I’d probably add how much she did for the Doctor. Because of her belief in him and what he does for the people of Earth, she did so much to protect him (1913 anyone?), and I think that’s a part of her strength and her big picture approach to situations.

I travelled across the world. From the ruins of New York, to the fusion mills of China, right across the radiation pits of Europe. And everywhere I went, I saw people just like you, living as slaves. But if Martha Jones became a legend, then that's wrong because my name isn't important. There's someone else. The man who sent me out there. The man who told me to walk the Earth. His name is the Doctor. He has saved your lives so many times, and you never even knew he was there. He never stops. He never stays. He never asks to be thanked. But I've seen him. I know him. I love him. And I know what he can do.

MARTHA
I've got the Osterhagen Key. Leave this planet and its people alone, or I'll use it.
THE DOCTOR
Osterhagen what? What's an Osterhagen Key?
MARTHA
There's a chain of twenty-five nuclear warheads placed in strategic points beneath the Earth's crust. If I use the key, they detonate and the Earth gets ripped apart.

The Osterhagen Key is to be used if the suffering of the Human Race is so great, so without hope... that this becomes the final option.
THE DOCTOR
That's NEVER an option.
MARTHA
Don't argue with me, Doctor.

When it matters, when it comes down to it, nothing is more important to Martha Jones than her family. Sure, she’s completely overused as the mediator, but she takes it on like a job, and it’s her family, you can’t really do much about that!

She does leave them behind once, to assist the Doctor, but events after that prove to Martha that family’s first.

MARTHA (on the phone with her sister)
You're up early! What's happening?
TISH
It's a nightmare, because Dad won't listen, and I'm telling you, Mum is going mental. Swear to God, Martha, this is epic. You've got to get in there and stop him.
MARTHA
How do I do that?
TISH
Tell Dad he can't bring her!

MARTHA:
Over here, Tish.
TISH:
You have to spoil everything, don’t you? Every time I find someone nice, you have to go and find fault.

MARTHA (over the phone, believing she’s about to die)
Mum, I… you know I love you, don’t you?
FRANCINE
Course I do. What’s bought this on?
MARTHA
I never say it. Never get the time. I never think of it, and I…I really love you. Tell dad, Leo and Tish that I love them.

MARTHA (rushing to save her parents)
I gotta help them!
DOCTOR
That’s exactly what they want! It’s a trap!
MARTHA
I don’t care!

Maybe Indigo tapped into my mind, because I ended up in the one place that I wanted to be.
(Martha materializes into her mother’s home)
MARTHA
Mum?
(Her mother rushes forward to embrace her)
FRANCINE
You came home. At the end of the world, you came back to me.

Love her hate her, watch this and you cannot deny her awesomeness. She’s walks the entire fucking Earth alone just to tell a story. She defies the odds. It’s amazing. She’s a hero and no one on Earth will ever remember her for that.

TOM:
There are a lot of people depending on you. You're a bit of a legend.
MARTHA:
What does the legend say?
TOM:
That you sailed the Atlantic, walked across America. That you're the only person to get out of Japan alive. ‘Martha Jones', they say, ‘She's gonna save the world.' Bit late for that.

DOCHERTY:
Martha, could you do it? Could you actually kill him?
MARTHA:
Got no choice.
DOCHERTY:
You might be many things, but you don't look like a killer to me.

BOY:
Are you Martha Jones?
MARTHA:
Yeah, that's me.
BOY:
Can you do it? Can you kill him? They said you can kill the Master, can you? Tell us you can do it. Please tell us you can do it.

(Martha laughs at the Master as he's about to kill her)
MARTHA:
A gun?
MASTER:
What about it?
MARTHA:
A gun in four parts?
MASTER:
Yes, and I destroyed it.
MARTHA:
A gun in four parts scattered across the world? I mean, come on. Did you really believe that?
MASTER:
What do you mean?

I told a story, that's all. No weapons, just words. I did just what the Doctor said. I went across the continents all on my own. And everywhere I went, I found the people, and I told them my story…I told them about the Doctor…And I told them to pass it on, to spread the word so that everyone would know about the Doctor.

MARTHA:
I just can't.
DOCTOR:
Yeah.
MARTHA:
Spent all these years training to be a doctor. Now I've got people to look after. They saw half the planet slaughtered and they're devastated. I can't leave them.
DOCTOR:
Of course not. Thank you. Martha Jones, you saved the world.
MARTHA:
Yes, I did. I spent a lot of time with you thinking I was second best. But you know what? I am good.

MARTHA:
And she wasted years pining after him, years of her life, ‘cause while he was around, she never looked at anyone else. And I told her, I always said to her, time and time again, I said: Get out. So this is me, getting out.
(reaches into her pocket and tosses her mobile to him)
Keep that. ‘Cause I'm not having you disappear. If that rings, when that rings, you better come running. Got it?
DOCTOR:
Got it.
MARTHA:
I'll see you again, mister.

*phew* I'm totally looking to do another picspam for this challenge. Just need a subject...
