Liking the black&white 9&Rose one's especially. I just this afternoon watched 'Rose' again for the first time in 2 years (I'd forgotten how great it is, espec. the bit when he's yelling at the Nestene thing about the time war. Aww.) and now just now I found some re-runs on BBC3 & watched 'The Empty Child' & 'The Doctor Dances', so am in a bit of a Nine mood =D

I can't help thinking that the end of the gun in #22 looks remarkably like a can of fizzy pop.

Oh & what's the text on #20 say? & which ep. is #4 from, the victorian one?

I'm glad you like! Thanks.

#20 was a brush I used, and I'm not really sure what it all says, I believe it's lyrics from a song or something. And yeah, #4 is from "The Unquiet Dead".

I can get back to you on the text thing though.

2/3 (even the one in colour) look very old-school SF, very 60s with that light in the background. Love 13 (SJ!), 28 (great shot of Rose especially), and 19 (not the most flattering photo of Jackie, but I like the way she's looking out, and we know exactly for whom). 25 is, alas, a good example of Billie Piper's slouching, isn't it?

But the photos in 11-13 always stand out to me, because they are obviously so happy (and it doesn't matter that it's the actors, not the characters). It's just so rare to see that kind of happiness - and chemistry that leaps off the photograph.

Cool, I'm glad you like.

Love 13 (SJ!)

Sarah Jane? That's 18. :) If that's what you meant. I didn't really notice BP's slouching in 25, but just for that, I should be careful of using sideway caps of her! Her slouching to me is most notable in "The Long Game", so I sort of avoid using a lot of caps of her from that one. I loved the pics I used for 11-13, because they are so happy, I'm so glad it comes through, whether it's the characters or the actors!

2/3 (even the one in colour) look very old-school SF

Is that a good thing?

Yes, 18, not 13 (my allergies are affecting my sight, or my fingers just aren't working right, one of the two!)

Her slouching to me is most notable in "The Long Game",

I think the design of her top in that one minimizes the effect, with that diagonal slash of colour. But I don't mind it when she's slouching across the back of the big chair behind the Doctor. That's the biggest flashing neon, "He's mine!" I think I've seen.

2/3 (even the one in colour) look very old-school SF

Is that a good thing?

For me it is! I particularly like 60s SF looks, all "mod" and cartoonish. Throw a hyperrealistic actor like CE into the mix and watch things go whoosh!

Actually, it's her outfit that really made it noticeable for me. lol But it's really the only episode that it bothers me in, and I had no problem with her slouching on the back of the chair. It was just something so automatic, it was great.

For me it is!

Oh yay!

Re: slouching: I guess it's where your eye gets drawn. The diagonal slash to me accentuated the silhouette of her figure, because BP doesn't really have an "hourglass" shape, naturally; from straight-on, she's actually pretty straight from shoulders to hips. That jacket shape made her look like she had more of a curve at her waist than she does (it's also why that denim dress in T&C makes her look shapeless, because it bags everywhere but her hips). But I have noticed the rounded shoulders more in S2, and I think actually the hoodies helped mask that a little, since there was bulk around the shoulders. In the pinky-purple thing she was wearing in TIP/TSP, and that slightly ruffly sky blue top in I can't remember what episode, the hunching was more obvious.

Now that I think about it, she's always done that. And nothing is less flattering than the red satin jumpsuit she was wearing in the ABBA tribute when she was about 17!

From: [identity profile] meganlynn09.livejournal.com
I guess I haven't really noticed it or paid attention to the slouching in season two because I haven't really liked her outfits that much in the second season. I liked her blue sweater in AoG/DD and her outfit in SR, but none of the others stand out.

I always thought her outfit in "The Long Game" made her look just tiny, she looked slimmer than usual and just all around small.

Now that I think about it, she's always done that. And nothing is less flattering than the red satin jumpsuit she was wearing in the ABBA tribute when she was about 17!

I've seen pictures of what she used to wear when she performed, and I really don't see room to complain about her outfits now! Sounds hideous.

I went to YouTube on a whim, thinking, "I wonder if it's there..."

Yup. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=hk2XUzp7gT4)

The quality is pretty poor, but you can't miss her, even with her natural (and prettier) dark hair. She's in red from head to foot, and yes, her shoulders are rounded most of the time.

Aww, Billie. You're such a pretty girl. Stand up straight!

Her hair's pretty. I really don't have anything to say. Except I was too busy GIGGLING to really pay much attention. They could have given her an outfit that at least blended in a little better. I don't know if that was possible, but something that wasn't blindingly red.

I like her brown hair. ;-)

Oh, God, I remember when this went out. Eyes all over Britain were bleeding. I mean, I know it was ABBA, but could they have been any tackier?! And poor Billie got the worst of the lot. That style is just not flattering, and the colour makes it worse.

Although the red does look nice with her dark hair, which I also prefer. Like Madonna, she looks better with her natural colour! Speaking of which, I just watched the 2002 CE interview about Our Friends in the North, and his hair is still died copper-blonde from 28 Days Later, I guess, but they interviewed him against a red-painted wall. The clash is like an assault to the eyes, and he looks so pale he's practically transparent.

Now, what was Rose wearing in SR besides the lunch lady outfit, 'cause that's what's burned into my brain!?

Why would you interview anyone in front of a red wall? Maybe I'm just not a huge fan of the color.

Jeans, with what looked like a bright yellow tank top or t-shirt, and a navy blue jacket. It was really nice. And it looked good on her.

Oh, yeah, I remember the yellow/navy combo. That was nice. Yellow is a tricky colour.

Why would you interview anyone in front of a red wall?

I have no idea. Psychologically, it's a very unsettling colour, even before you stick a redhead in front of it. Check it out. (http://pics.livejournal.com/nina_ds/pic/000bcb40) Add in his usual interview contortions, and it's not exactly the most comfortable thing to watch, although what he says is fascinating.

That said, I think I like him as a redhead. Recognize the jumper style?

What exactly do you mean? How he arranges his body or something? Just curious...

I noticed his hair took on a orange color in that pic, and he oddly still looked good. Maybe 'cause his eyes stand out that little bit more. Speaking of him as a redhead, just makes me think of that conversation I was having a little while ago about Nine/Turlough.

So, maybe when they dressed CE for the Doctor they really just let him dress himself? ;)

Oh, by all means ask if I'm not clear. Yeah, just the way he always seems to squirm and twist himself into uncomfortable-looking positions (like that icon you have where he's bent way to the side). He's a little better about it nowadays, but I noticed in the long BBC interview that he did to promote DW, he seemed to be sitting absolutely straight, as if tied to the chair.

So, maybe when they dressed CE for the Doctor they really just let him dress himself? ;)

To some extent, yeah, looks like. I know that Billie had a lot of input in her costuming, so fair's fair! I've also read that RTD definitely knew he wanted a 40-something in a leather jacket for the Doctor before CE was cast (although how much of that was an incentive, I don't know!).

If you look at some of the roles that he did in his late 20s, this hair colour isn't so far off from the colour of his hair then, and he was a blond kid (evidence photos in Second Coming), so it doesn't look wrong on him the way even Billie's bottle blonde does.

I never thought she looked bad with blonde hair, kind of liked it, but people usually do look better with their natural hair color. Not always, because I always thought Mandy Moore looked better with brown hair.

It's funny though, people always complain about Billie's blonde hair and her dark eyebrows, and it's like, "That's me! And it's natural!" I've always had dark colored eyebrows, but with blonde hair. It's a darker blonde, I've never dyed it, but my eyebrows don't match so I always take a little offense when people take a stab at her for that. :)

Now, for the really important fashion issues! :-)

For me, it's not so much the contrast between eyebrows and hair on Billie (though notice that even when his hair is red/blonde, CE's sandy eyebrows match!), it's that it's just not a very natural-looking colour. And I thought she was a cute brunette (if you could get past the red jumpsuit!)

To be honest, she probably had little say in that red jumpsuit, but ouch. Worse than a high school photo in years to come - unless they crop the picture, because from the shoulders up, she looks cute!

I was hoping they'd have a link to Flesh & Blood, which is the one major thing I missed... Sigh. I'm surprised it's not out on DVD.

Re: Jude, it is beautifully acted, and kind of...natural - not very overheated the way some period pieces can be. It feels quite real. All of which comes crashing down in the most horrific way possible at one point. I don't think anything you could imagine would be as grim as what actually happens. I'll say that much at least, so you don't get completely sucker-punched. I didn't know the first time, and I was just devastated. It's haunting, no doubt. Ironically, the movie softens the ending! You'll never believe it.

I responded to your post so you wouldn't be out there as the only voice against the squeeing hordes! :-) And also to show that no, not everyone thinks Ten is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Even if he were the best thing ever, the whole idea just squicks me. Particularly since I can't think of a single thing that Ten ever did to really win Rose - he just assumed he had her, and if that's all based on his being physically attractive, then whew, that's sick.

Interesting tidbit I saw on TwoP - apparently Rose was supposed to leave in the first Cyberman two-parter. They thought Billie was leaving then, so she really was going to realize that it wasn't the same and she would take the initiative to leave. That would have been soooooooo much better. On every single level I can think of. And a genuinely heartbreaking goodbye - I loved you, and you were everything to me, and I still love you, but things have changed, and I can't stay. AAAAAGH! Billie, why did you have to stay? ;-)

See, I wasn't even replying to do that. One of the posters just mentioned that he was younger and I wanted her to know it was just appearances. And then she mentioned that's what she was talking about and that he now met Rose on a emotional level, immature and stuff, I wanted to be a snot and be like "How the hell is that better?"

But I'm glad somebody agreed. Someone else did, and I'm sorry I don't remember their name.

Interesting tidbit I saw on TwoP - apparently Rose was supposed to leave in the first Cyberman two-parter.

That really would have been nice. I'm reminded of Jackie's speech in AoG. I think what I liked and disliked about it was that it would have been a nice wake-up call to Rose, instead it all turns out to be a punishment, and that's not fair to the viewers and to Rose the character.

Would you know anything about CE's Heart, I don't know if it's a movie or TV show or what, but it's up for download and I have no idea what it is.

I haven't seen The House of Sand and Fog. But Jude is hard; very hard. In the words of an English professor I know, "Thomas Hardy was a sick fuck." Yeah, that about sums it up.

One of the posters just mentioned that he was younger and I wanted her to know it was just appearances. And then she mentioned that's what she was talking about and that he now met Rose on a emotional level, immature and stuff, I wanted to be a snot and be like "How the hell is that better?"

Oh, I know!!! I think Rose was more mature at 19 than she was at 20 - he was dragging her backwards, in that regard. And while I agree that Rose and Ten act more like conventional, teenage boyfriend and girlfriend, I can't believe that there are people so naïve/blind as to not see that there was physical attraction between Rose and Nine. And I go back to my argument that she never, ever once looked at Ten the way she looked at Nine in The Unquiet Dead, which was with more passion and more tenderness. Plus, there's just all the variation in the way she and Nine related to each other, which is more realistic and more comfortable, without losing the spark/tension.

But when somebody posted "Oh, how sweet!", I was so tempted to reply, "Um, no, it's really, really quite sick."

I'm reminded of Jackie's speech in AoG. I think what I liked and disliked about it was that it would have been a nice wake-up call to Rose, instead it all turns out to be a punishment, and that's not fair to the viewers and to Rose the character.

Yeah, that was kind of a rain of anvils in a way which seemed like it might be far more interesting than it turned out to be. She would have been in the alt!verse for the finale, but oh, that she would have had the initiative to leave! The whole need to bind the audience with the Doctor would have been better, too, because he would have had to figure out who he was without Rose, and she wouldn't have been there to distract him and the audience.

Grrrr. I'm actually now kind of miffed with Billie for staying for those extra episodes!

Would you know anything about CE's Heart, I don't know if it's a movie or TV show or what, but it's up for download and I have no idea what it is.

Whoo boy. Where to start. If you can download it, I'd do it simply because it's getting to be hard to come by. But I wouldn't rush to watch it. It's possibly the worst thing he's done - of course, by his standards, that's still not as bad as it could be, and in fact, there are some interesting things about the movie, and it has a great cast, but it's pretty messed up. It was written by Jimmy McGovern as his "Saturday Night Movie". It's got murder, drugs, adultery, implications of incest, more murder, a lot of blood, and Alan Eccleston in a party scene looking very much like the older brother that he is. CE's character is probably the most sympathetic, but you still want to slap him silly.

But a cute scene with a cat. CE must be a cat person, because cats know, and they won't behave for a camera with an actor otherwise.

Most definitely. It was insane how they seemingly destroyed the character that they build so well in season one. I don't know. I just keep hoping that they why things were seen, was it because of the editing and not the directors and actors? Were there better takes that were thrown out? It's troubling, I keep hoping that next season is better, but with all the tidbits I hear, I can't help but worry.

I can't believe that there are people so naïve/blind as to not see that there was physical attraction between Rose and Nine.

Actually, that I can believe, it's that I can't believe that people see more chemistry between Rose and Ten than Rose and Nine. It doesn't matter what kind of chemistry, there was more, IMO, between CE and BP.

Yeah, that was kind of a rain of anvils in a way which seemed like it might be far more interesting than it turned out to be.

With Jackie's speech, some people were saying that it didn't matter, that Jackie wasn't making a good point. People kept remembering Rose's speech about why she needed to get back to the Doctor from TPotW, when unfortunately, Rose and RTD lost focus on that. She wasn't in it anymore to make things better, to live the better life, she was in it now to be with the Doctor. She didn't even listen to herself. ti's ridiculous. I loved Jackie's speech, it was harsh and maybe unwarranted, but Rose needed to hear that yes, she is changing, and no, the change isn't good. It's not necessarily the change that Jackie may have objected, it's how she changed, what she changed into.

Re: CE's movie, I might have to check that out for giggles.

Oh, I wanted to ask. I just finished a batch of more TPotW icons, and I have an animated one of the Jack/Doctor kiss, and I don't know what the text should be. I have "I love you" on it, but I don't know if it works. What do you think? I know there are tons of icons like that, but I wanted to try my hand at it :).

I know. I can't imagine listening to the commentaries and hear them congratulate themselves on how well they did, because it will make me cringe. I'm not even sure I want to watch Casanova now, although I know I probably will. I like Tennant better, actually, when he's not leaping around like a loony, but apparently I'm in the minority on that one.

I can't believe that people see more chemistry between Rose and Ten than Rose and Nine. It doesn't matter what kind of chemistry, there was more, IMO, between CE and BP.

Well, yes, there is that! Most definitely. Although I have a distinct memory of watching "Rose" thinking, "What happened to the Doctor's asexuality?" But to be honest, although you can read Nine's body language toward Rose as friendly/paternal oh, maybe, 70% of the time, what I saw in Rose was her physically flirting with him. She was walking so close to him, they were kind of jostling each other, and that "You could come with me," at the end is so coded as asking her out for a date... Her smile at the end is 100%, "Oh, yeah, I'm coming with you...oh, and also going on an adventure, but mostly I'm coming with you."

I love, love, love those little moments in that episode where he checks up on her, asking her if she's all right, or he's an alien, yes, is that all right? That is just something we don't get in S2 at all, yet it's all through S1, for both of them (as you've pointed out, in TDD when they fall through the floor).

I also agree about the difference between PotW and DD - there's really no comparison, and I do think Rose (and the director, writers, and everyone involved) lost track of things. BTW, have I mentioned that I hated what the Doctor did to Jackie when he pretended she was "old Rose"? It was funny, but it was mean, and unnecessary. Between that and the Harriet business, Ten is going to have to work pretty damned hard to get some affection back from me. Yet ironically, he works better with older women! I'd even say DT acts better with CC than he does with BP, but add in Mrs. Moore, SJS, and Ida? It's the opposite of that weirdly innocent thing CE can do with teenaged girls. I just saw the sweetest picture of him with a 12-14 year old girl from Mencap (the British charity for the mentally handicapped).

Back on topic, I'd like Jackie to have been able to reach Rose, because that was so very different from the moment in PotW that always chokes me up, when Jackie says, "Lord knows I have hated that man, but right now I love him." And where she sees that Rose has gained something positive. Wow, I'd never really thought how different those two speeches are until this minute. Telling, huh?

Re: CE's movie, I might have to check that out for giggles.

The haircut alone is worth a few guffaws (fringe/bangs, looks like it was cut with a bowl on his head).

I have an animated one of the Jack/Doctor kiss, and I don't know what the text should be. I have "I love you" on it, but I don't know if it works. What do you think?

Oooh, I was just thinking I needed a better "kiss" icon. "I love you" is the truth, and the caption "two cowards" appeals, but you'd really have to know the context to get that. What about "Never doubted him..." fading to "...never will"?

I'm not even sure I want to watch Casanova now, although I know I probably will. I like Tennant better, actually, when he's not leaping around like a loony

From what I've heard, you're probably going to hate Casanova then.

BTW, have I mentioned that I hated what the Doctor did to Jackie when he pretended she was "old Rose"? It was funny, but it was mean, and unnecessary.

I didn't hate the Doctor then, but I didn't really like it. But at least Jackie is willing to call him on his crap. Won't take his crap either. She's gonna grab him by the ears and tell him what for. And did that. She turned out to have the guts that her daughter eventually lost.

The haircut alone is worth a few guffaws (fringe/bangs, looks like it was cut with a bowl on his head).

Oh, I hate those haircuts so much. They're so annoying on kids because you know that's what the parent did, and that's just mean!

What about "Never doubted him..." fading to "...never will"?

I could really work with that. Thanks for the suggestions. Anything from PotW you might want an icon of by chance?
