WARNING: RANT Ahead
Aug. 27th, 2006 08:54 pmAlright, seriously. Is it really a crime to like season one of Doctor Who more than season two? I'm sorry that I wasn't that impressed with DT as the Doctor, I adore the actor, I think he's awesome and very charming, I just didn't love his Doctor. I understand if others do, but I expect those people to understand and DEAL WITH THE FACT that I disgree. I respect that people have different opinions, and reading my journal, it's pretty obvious where my feelings lie. I like Nine/Rose. Ten/Rose I can tolerate on a good day (and in a well written fic). I'm in love with Nine. I like Ten when he's not shouty. I thought season one had better quality than season two. I think season two had a lot of misses. I don't care if you disagree, just don't shove it down my throat that you think I'm wrong. I won't talk to you then.
And no, I don't think "The Girl in the Fireplace" is the best episode ever. My favorite episode of both seasons is "The End of the World".
And no, I really don't want to look at another "Doomsday" wallpaper.
I LIKE NINE MORE THAN TEN, deal with it.
(Sooo not directed at anyone in my flist, I'm sorry if I offended anyone on my flist, I'm really not this bitchy, just having a bad week, month, year, whatever)
Um...continue onto your evening.
P.S.
I will have my animated icons posted tomorrow.
P.P.S.
I think my mood theme is more bitch than I am at the moment.

Date: 2006-08-28 01:09 am (UTC)I loved, "Girl in the Fireplace" the first time I saw it. When I watched it a second time, I was upset about it. While I think DT is great and has had many wonderful moments, I don't think he will ever be able to capture my heart the way that CE did. It's just not going to happen.
Plus, I think that most of the episodes in S1 were better written than the ones in S2.

Date: 2006-08-28 01:17 am (UTC)Awww. Was there something in particular that set you off, or just the accumulated weight of the squee.
I have such sympathy, yes. I actually commented on a couple of posts today at
Some communities ::cough:: are not representative of the fandom. Unfortunately, if you want Nine/Rose, you kind of have to go there.
There was a very sad/sweet Jack/Nine posted today. Made me feel happier. (It even has a little dig at Ten/Rose in it.) My only problem is that some Jack/Nine types want to deny Nine/Rose.
I must be tired...I can tell I'm rambling!
But cheer up! (I need a "cheer up" icon from Othello - it's a great moment!)

Date: 2006-08-28 01:33 am (UTC)I think it was just a bunch of fandom stuff just accumulating. And seeing that post on doctorwho about which episode from season 2 should be nominated for a Hugo and practically everyone saying "Girl in the Fireplace". And lots saying "Love and Monsters" and "The Idiot's Lantern", really don't understand the love for those episodes.
My only problem is that some Jack/Nine types want to deny Nine/Rose.
Which is odd. Very odd. I understand if people don't want to do the whole OT3 thing, but it's very weird to play it like there's nothing between Nine and Rose. Unless that's how they really view it.
I have brownies (no, not special brownies), so I'm good on the cheering up!

Date: 2006-08-28 01:28 am (UTC)It's not like Ten/Rose shippers, and lovers of the Tenth Doctor, aren't hugely in the majority. I mean tennent love has well over 1000 members. So what's the problem with some of us missing Nine, and preferring Nine/Rose? You'd think different opinions would be welcomed

Date: 2006-08-28 01:47 am (UTC)I think what really bothers me about Ten lovers, and it has nothing to do with the fact that they love Ten, it's the fact that some of them don't understand why others don't find him appealing. Why don't they find Nine appealing?
And I love nine_love. I need to find a way to attract some more members for ya!

Date: 2006-08-28 01:31 am (UTC)I didn't hate it, but I wasn't impressed with season two. I was really disappointed in the stories and the lack of chemistry between Ten and Rose. I don't hate David Tennant, but he's not Chris! And I just absolutely adore Chris as the Doctor! He was tremendous and I would give anything to see him come back-- somehow, some way.
How we all feel is obviously not how everyone feels, but the difference is we're not TELLING anyone how they should feel or what is right or wrong.
I'm glad you spoke up.

Date: 2006-08-28 01:51 am (UTC)I'm glad I spoke up as well, I just wish people would understand that not everyone thinks Ten is the best thing ever!

Date: 2006-08-28 02:03 am (UTC)I really find things I love about all of the Doctors, from One on up to Ten. But to ask me to choose between Nine and Ten? I really couldn't. I just feel that I love them both for entirely different reasons.
Yes, I am mad about David Tennant, and, I run

Date: 2006-08-28 02:09 am (UTC)I love David Tennant, I think he's adorable and great, but I just didn't appreciate his Doctor as much as others, and I didn't like how some felt that I'm just stuck in the past because I love Nine so much.
Please don't feel like I was attacking how you felt. I completely understand. It's just when people tell me my opinion's wrong that I got heated because nobody's opinions are wrong, just different.
Wish I have control of all my icons so I can use one of my Ten ones. :-)

Date: 2006-08-28 02:28 am (UTC)As for Girl in the Fireplace, I don't really know what I think of it. It is very pretty to look at and a very clever idea but problematic for me in that a) I have very little sympathy with the French aristocracy no matter how nice their frocks and thus cannot garner much angst over them being attacked by clockwork robots and b) since I sat through the agony of Tristan and Isolde Sophia Myles is on my list of actresses I want to shake my fist at for their 'acting.' Seriously, Tristan and Isolde was so awful that I have lingering resentment for everyone involved down to the second unit director! I exclude Rufus Sewell from my resentment, though.

Date: 2006-08-28 02:50 am (UTC)I think it may have been a little Sophia Myles' fault why I didn't like the episode. She was just a bit too wooden for my liking! I liked the idea, I liked the plot, and I loved the clockwork robots, but that was it for me. It just wasn't executed well enough for me.
Thank you for commenting.

Just two days ago, I was watching an episode of Foyle's War. David Tennant had a small, solid, but stock role as a young malcontent/wannabe revolutionary, but there was this young woman who was just driving me crazy - I kept thinking, "This is the most wooden performance I have ever seen. I mean, she's blandly pretty - she's no Polly Walker or Cate Blanchett, or even Keeley Hawes - but my goodness I've seen high school plays with better acting." And when I checked the credits, it was Sophia Myles. In a show with actors who have the subtlety of Michael Kitchen and Anthony Howell, it was shocking.

Date: 2006-08-28 03:21 am (UTC)I think the shouty messes with everyone's head. And it's not like I hate Ten, I quite like him, I just don't have the love for him that I do for Nine and some just can't seem to understand that. I'm glad that I've found others that do! And don't get angry when I get quite bitchy about it.
Oh, I have so much love for season one. Especially episodes that everyone overlooks or hates, like I have special love for "The Unquiet Dead" and "The Long Game". Especially TLG, some love for Suki because she flirted with Nine and he needs some love!
BTW, love the icon, I can never find enough Farscape icons. God, I have such love for that show as well.

Date: 2006-08-29 12:48 am (UTC)For me, the one thing that drew me right away to the show was Christopher Eccleston's portrayal of the Ninth Doctor. I knew he was only there for one season, I swore I wouldn't get too attached but I couldn't help it. I love Ten and DT is a great actor, but I know Nine will always be my Doctor.
I thought season one had better quality than season two.
I felt the same way. I can name at least six eps of season one I would watch over and over, but would only do the same with three on season two. To me it felt like it lacked some spark - it was good but not as fantastic as season one was for me.
And something else - I think David Tennant is cute, but I find Christopher Eccleston a lot more attractive and sexy.

And that's it. Season 2 just lacked something that lure me in like season 1 did.

Oh, most definitely!

Date: 2006-09-03 10:56 pm (UTC)I second all you've said about him in your original post: I too admit that DT is cute and all(although he drives me insane when he shouts: every time I wich I could shove a baked potato into his mouth just to make him stop!), but I'm so awestruck whenever I see CE in season 1 that I enjoy re-watching those episodes over and over again and I never get bored. This doesn't happen with season 2, as IMHO is lacks the chemistry, the UST and the hundreds of little unsaid-but-tangible things that made the 9th Doctor & Rose's relationship so special and unusual.
Moreover, CE is such a great actor that he doesn't even need to speak too much when he wants to convey a certain feeling to one scene: there is such a variety of expressions crossing his face in just a few seconds that sometimes you can't even catch them all at first sight, only if you watch the episode again in slow motion can you capture all the nuances he's capable of, which is amazing!
