Just seemed like a normal day at school. I was a freshman in high school, just barely a month in. Our classes were set up in a block, we had four classes for about an hour and a half for one semester and four different classes the next semester, it was like college almost.
Anyway, I was in my second class of the day, Algebra, when near the end of class my teacher got a phone call. When she hung up she told us that one of the twin towers was hit and they think it was a terroist attack. She didn't get all the information and it was confusing. My friend, though, started to freak out because she had relatives that worked there. (Found out later that they were both fine, they got out safely)
Class was over quickly and we all went to our next. Mine was orchestra (I played the violin). But when I went in the room that day, the lights were low and the TV was on. They were reporting what was happening and my friend Andrew came up and told me that both twin towers of the World Trade Center were hit and collapsed and the Pentagon was hit and that a plane crashed in Pennsylvania. I was numb.
We all sat and watched the news for the whole class. The teachers became a little scared of letting the students out of the classrooms. It was momentary paranoid.
Watching it all unfold in the classroom, I couldn't really think anything but "It looks like a movie". I couldn't comprehend what was happening. I couldn't understand how it could happen. It still hadn't set in when my dad picked me up after school. We didn't really talk when he took me home. I avoided watching any news that afternoon until both my parents were home.
My mom and I watched a little and that's when it happened. My mom folded me in her arms and we just cried.
It was the worst day that I hope I ever had to see. My heart goes out to those that lost family and friends and acquaintances. I know this is a day I will never forget.

Even at the time, I thought that one of the reasons they kept showing us the second plane just disappearing into the building was that it looked so much like a special effect, it was unreal. We had to see it over and over again just to let it sink in. On the other hand, I kept thinking, if it was a movie, it wouldn't be so clean. There'd be a nice, pretty explosion and the plane would come through the other side. That's what just stunned me. A huge jet disappeared into the building. I still have trouble with that, on so many levels.
