I have a very love/hate relationship with spelling. On the one hand, I'm good at it and on the other hand I hate it when seeing certain spellings of words/names.

For example, I hate it when people spell Megan with any extra letters. Especially the "h". *stabs the "h" in Meghan*

So here's the rant.

I loathe when people spell the shortened version or whatever of Meredith as "Mer". I loathe it. Makes me think of mermaid. It's Mere. Say the words aloud. Mermaid, Meredith. They are not interchangeable. (This could be entirely my own opinion)

This is not an opinion. There is no character in Stargate: Atlantis named Ronan. You must be getting this person mixed up with RONON. I don't care if it's an honest mistake, if you can spell Teyla right, and a name with many more letters like Elizabeth correctly, then you can sure as hell spell Ronon right.

Ronan? Mer? Wow. Smart people. You're right. I mean, I've never come up against that problem, but I can definitely see how that would get annoying. So I solve the problem like this...*points at the uninitiated* Ahahahaha...

:D

People who've watched the show though are spelling it like that. Sometimes pronunciation is very important to me, I don't know why, so when I see Mer instead of Mere, my inner teacher or bitch comes out.

Surprisingly it's the Mer that gets to me more than Ronan, even though that annoys the hell out of me.

I do the "Mer" thing. When I first saw it typed out like that, I hated it as well. I stuck with it though, since everyone and their mother in the GA fandom spells it like that. *shrugs*

I hate it when folks spell, my name with an "h". It's CRISTINA not Christina. When I was younger, it used to bug me that I didn't have an "h" in my name. I've embraced it though, and I actually think it's a much prettier way to spell it.

I'm not going to attack the people who spell it that way, hope it didn't sound like that, but it is a pet peeve of mine! I'm sure there's a way I spell something that annoys people. I know the way that I say certain words annoys people.

I have a friend named Cristina, and it's really not that hard to spell it without the "h". I think it looks nicer without the "h". ;)

Oh, that's so annoying! My name is spelled "Daniele" instead of "Danielle", and I have a similar problem with my last name *and* my surname, Danie. Grr.

I can understand when teachers or new friends make mistakes, but a big part of my family still doesn't spell my name right, and it's driving me crazy. "Danielle" always lots of Christmas and Birthday cards though, so good for her, lol.

Er, that was supposed to be "Danielle always receives lots of Christmas and Birthday cards".

Heh. My great grandmother used to send me a birthday card every year spelling my name Magen. I couldn't be annoyed with her, but luckily I don't think anyone else in my family have that problem.

I figured Ronon was the canon spelling, hmmm. If it isn't then I suppose I just really want it to be spelled like that.

I love spelling. I always need to know how to spell everything. I am still bitter about losing my middle school spelling bee because the teacher running it didn't know the word I got has two equally acceptable spellings.

I don't think "Mer" would bother me, because it's "Mer" taken from the context of "Meredith," not "mermaid." Haha, this is going to sound insane, but I think my opinion changed in the middle of typing out that sentence. Because I just remembered some other character where people do the same thing and I hate it. So, er, never mind :x

Also, I have a friend named Meaghan ;)

I was a good speller since I was little, it came in handy. Sometimes though is drives me as nuts as it does the people I correct!

It's kind of an irrational hate because I'm the only one feeling it but everytime I see Mer I say it in my head and I think mermaid! It's very weird.
