Feb. 7th, 2007 09:03 pmI just didn't have one really handy for this post.
Anyway, I'm about to gush about a show that kinda doesn't deserve it so much. If only because it's a little crap.
Anyone know Jake 2.0? It starred the adorable Christopher Gorham, so maybe it wasn't so hard to get sucked into.
It's the first show I really wanted to watch for the 'ship. That's weird to me, but this show made it worth it, just for the ship. Pics are included!
A little about the show itself:
It's every red-blooded American male's dream to be either a secret agent or a superhero. In UPN's new action-adventure drama, JAKE 2.0, Jake Foley gets his shot to be both when he is infected by nanites--based on nanotechnology, the real life break-through technology in development that reduces the size of computers to the molecular level. Jake's day job is providing tech support at the super-secret National Security Agency (NSA), but his dream is to become an NSA secret agent - a dream that surprisingly and disturbingly comes true after a freak accident at the Agency. When inexplicable things start to happen to Jake, he learns that he was exposed to a liquid containing the top-secret nanites, which are now giving him mind-boggling powers--superhuman strength, lightning-fast speed, heightened hearing, razor sharp vision and telepathic abilities to communicate with computers. This development sends shockwaves through several major players at the NSA: Kyle Duarte, an intense and talented former field agent now working behind a desk; Louise Beckett, a powerful senior agent, and Diane Hughes, a research doctor desperate to understand Jake's unlimited powers.
Presented with the superhuman Jake, a remarkable but untested new asset, the NSA authorizes the creation of a new Special Ops division with him at its core. Jake realizes his dream has finally come true, but at a price--now he has to straddle two different worlds: the treacherous life of being the world's mightiest secret agent while keeping his new powers hidden from the outside world, including friends, family and the beautiful congressional staffer, Sarah Heywood, for whom he secretly pines.
Anyway, the good stuff.
Pretty fast, the show introduces a triangle between Jake(Christopher), Sarah(the college crush) and Diane(Jake's doctor).
Basically, few episodes in it's: Diane likes Jake who likes Sarah. Sarah and Diane have not met.
The episode that proved it would be worth it? #6 where Jake goes to his best friend's wedding which also has Sarah attending. At this point, I was more interested in Jake/Diane because they were developing a wonderful friendship and Sarah was boring. Anyway, Diane also ends up at the wedding because she's worried about Jake's health, which was a good idea.
The nanites in Jake's body end up causing his heart to stop and Diane gets him back. They are both majorly relieved andthen done sex then go to the reception of the wedding.
Sarah comes up and basically lets Jake know she's now interested and tells him "I think this is where we dance". Jake, hardly looking at her, tells her "I think I should dance with my date" and dances with Diane. Yes, I may have squeed a bit because at heart I'm a girl and love romances.
And he tells her she looks beautiful. Aww.
Two episodes later, Diane is going on dates with some other guy, and Jake is clearly jealous. So he and Sarah go on a date and run into Diane and her guy. Unfortunately, Diane's date is using her because he needs her because she's involved in the nanites project, basically he's a bad guy. Jake, of course, saves her.
Anyway, what makes this a remarkable episode is the fact that Jake tries to tell the truth to Sarah about what he works for and what's up with him. She walks away and IS NEVER SEEN AGAIN. Yes, she's off the show.
So, Diane and Jake grow closer as friends, and then, something happens to Jake involving his nanites and some bad guy or whatever and he loses his memories and runs away from NSA and everyone.
This results in the awesome episode "Get Foley" which was never aired because the show was pulled, and four episodes were unaired in the US until this past Friday.
Anyway, Diane tracks down Jake where she finds he's fighting for money(yeah, I know how it sounds). But I have pictures for this episode.

This is Jake. He's geeky, angsty and awesome.

This is Diane. I tend to like characters who wear glasses, and she's dorky like me and just absolutely adorable.

Diane tracks Jake down, and instead of just telling him everything, just tries to have some small talk with him and tries to get him in her company.

And it works, and she's so excited, but she has to act like she's never met him and try to get him to trust her and he seems to really enjoy her company.

The next night, while he's fighting, he sees her walk in and it bothers him. He storms off because she shouldn't be there and she's mad because he's going to get himself killed. It's very interesting because NoMemory!Jake takes a quick liking to Diane and doesn't want her to see this side of him. And they argue.

He naturally keeps getting more and more upset because he just can't remember anything and it's frustrating.

And she comforts him.

And they kiss.

It's pretty hot.

And they get into bed when Diane stops them.

He's disappointed, but accepting and can't take his eyes off her, nor his hands.

She can't sleep with him because he's not in the right state and she is and she doesn't want this to happen this way even though she desparately wants it.

Hottest part of the episode is when they cuddle and just hold on to each other so tightly.

She wakes up and he wants to run away with her. He's become smitten so very fast, but Diane knows they can't do it. Besides the fact that NSA will find them, she wants all of Jake.

But then he finds out that she's working for the NSA and believes she's betrayed him. She tries to tell him that they need him back at the NSA with his memories, and she has a means of getting his memories back. He's too angry to really think about it and he storms out.

Naturally upset that it couldn't go her way, so calls her boss and tells her that she needs help. "I told him that I could let him go [if he didn't want his memories back], but I can't. I need your help."

And then at the end, he gives up and is willing to get his memories back. And she's there for him.

And again, he can't take his eyes off her.

In the lab, ready to give him the injection to get his memories, Jake asks her: "You said the first time you saw me you thought something could happen between us. Were you talking about him [the Jake he's read in the files, all the heroic deeds he did before]? Or me?"
And she tells him, pointing at his chest. "I love him, Jake. He's my best friend." Oh I love it!

And he's back!

And they're so giddy.

I love this little gesture, she just cups his face with her hands and kisses his cheek.
The next episode, there is a little awkwardness because Jake actually remembers everything. He remembers that he almost slept with his best friend and tries to talk about it to her. They get sidetracked, and this is the only little bit we get.
Diane corners him in the men's room to talk about something else, but Jake goes on to say this:
Okay. Look. I've been thinking about this a lot and that kiss was - (Diane's eyes widen as Jake continues.) -- well, I know things were crazy, but I meant it. You're beautiful. But I keep coming back to the fact that we work together and it's the NSA and I think that we both understand that we just can't.
Anyway, at this point, and shown in the next episode, they sort of lean on one another. They talk to each other about everything and we know they care a great deal about each other.
If they were able to do a finale episode, they actually had a real outline, ready to turn into a script. The important Jake/Diane bits:
Something with the nanites is wrong or something or other and Jake's dying and they're trying to figure something out.
(One interesting little bit is when Diane's grabbed as a hostage: DuMont tosses Jake aside grabs Diane as a hostage, asking that everyone clear the room so he can escape. Warner demands that the guard shoot through Diane if he must. Jake reaches out and grips Warner's neck, tells her to be quiet. He's very protective of her and you don't want to anger the man.)
Anyway, Jake's still dying and this last resort to save him is very dangerous as it's supposed to rip all the nanites from his body or something.
Diane preps Jake. It is an emotional moment. Jake looks at Diane: there is something he wants to tell her. Before Diane can ask, Jake embraces and kisses her. He loves her, and needed her to know before he dies.
All ends well! At the end of the outline, the end of the episode would tell us, that apparantly they live together. And leave it open had they been able to do a second season.
So, I just wanted to share that little, weird, obsession I got into for a week or two.
I have no idea why I felt the need to share this. Please disregard if necessary.
